First time ever playing football manager, Please help

HiI have never played any of the football manager's, I am a console guy so play fifa. Last few weeks my brother has been playing this everyday for hours n hours at a time so thought I would buy it and give it ago. I started as newcastle 3 times and got sacked 3 times, I spent alot of time scouting playing comparing them against what I have to make sure I am buying better, get scout reports on others to make sure there good as back up but still losing.I have posted on the tactic section to check what I should be using, however there will be players there that I have missed and would fit in the Newcastle squad.So just starting with Newcastle & first day with them, what?Players should a sell? & how much for?Players should I buy? & how much for?

You should start with a big club IMO.. My 1st playthrough was FM2013 with Real Madrid. 2 seasons, then out. Then Wigan for 10+ seasons.

I'd recommend this website footballmanagerstory.com/scout as it has loads of great young players where you can see how much they should cost you, how they are at the beginning and how they develop under the AI and a player will always develop better under human management (well most of the time).

For newcastle I'd recommend a 4-3-2-1 with 3 Central Midfielders, make sure you keep Cabaye, Sissoko and Tiote as they are all very different but work amazingly together as a team in Central Midfield.
Maybe sell Santon if you can get a decent price for him and ahve a cheap left back to replace him/battle with Haidara (who is quite good at the start)
Make sure you keep Krul, one of the best keepers in the whole game and will serve you for 10 years easily.
Ben Arfa is good but can be a bit inconsistent so it's upto you whether you cash in on him or not

Hope that helps a bit on the Newcastle front but like emman said, maybe try with Real madrid or Bayern until you get used to the game?

Actually, you should try to keep Santon. Excellent defender. Ones better than him, are generally not available at a reasonable price at the game start.
