Club: Fleetwood Town
League: Blue Square North
Version: 10.3
Aim: Premier League; anything else is a bonus...

Overview

Fleetwood Town are a small semi-professional club based in Lancashire. Situated in the sixth tier of English football (their highest ever position since the club's re-establishment in 1997) and with a stadium capacity of 5000, the club are on the up. Their nickname according to the game is The Fishermen. Many things were taken into consideration when choosing my data but was always planning on a BSN/BSS side. Fleetwood's red top with white sleeves appropriately matched there stadium name of Highbury and with a media prediction of 3rd, fairly stable finances and with a high chance of a board takeover my mind was made up.. Let's hope it's all upstream from here; Premier League here we come!

Pre Season

Replacing a fellow scot Micky Mellon, I arrived at Highbury to a fairly poor reception by The Fishermen Faithful knowing straight away that this wasn't goin to be plane sailing; any mishaps I doubt I'd be let off the hook. However, giving an unexpected budget of 26k and £10,900 for wages if I achieve promotion there were signs of early promise. Doing my usual clearence of any deadwood (8 players on total), bringing in any staff necessary and immediately settling for my own tactics (buy players to fit the formation, not vice versa) I felt right at home. Now it was time to dive into the transfer market..

Having a look at the player search and those who were deemed available, it didn't look good. Although remembering a tip from FM2008 I had loaded up players from 'Reunion' (An island off the west coast of Africa) who are cheap and willing to come to lesser known clubs I quickly got more than I had hoped for. These players and a few other out of contracters and i was ready to go.. here is a few screenies to sum up the market..

All of my signings went down well with the fans, especially the French/Reunionese players and even the selling of a club icon in 'Nathan Pond' (seriously) didn't do me too much harm in terms of early credibility.. It was time to fit them into my formation and get some playing action underway..

Tactics (Hopefully for the season)

With a team picked without any real uncertainty (can't decide what role to give my lone striker!) I was ready to play my four friendlies that i'd arranged..

Some good results especially the West-Ham reserves game in which they were 1-3 favourites. Stand out player in the games was my free roaming trequarista 'Elcaman' who contributed two goals and two assists.. Competitive action will follow! I've got a good feeling about this one..

Season Underway - August to October

8.8.09 Solihull Motors 2-2 Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood Scorers; Elcaman (12) & Seddon (66) .. MOM; Elcamam (7.8)
Summary; Going down to an early set peice in six mins of a new season is never mind-settling but a swift and stunning reply from my most promising signing set me on my way for an eventful draw.. not too shabby..

11.8.09 Fleetwood Town 2-0 Hyde
Fleetwood Scorers; Seddon (pen 76) & Kay (90+1) .. MOM; Guichard (8.6)
Summary; A comfortable win even though without two of my preferred eleven players in Elcaman and Fraumes who where on international duty.. **** I didnt think of that one!

15.8.09 Fleetwood Town 2-0 AFC Telford
Fleetwood Scorers; Elcaman (49) & Denton (58) .. MOM; Elcamam (8.8)

Early injury crisis!
A few injuries picked up and all at least four weeks! Elcaman one of the victims and faces five weeks on the sidelines.. Arrrgghhh.. These injuries picked up here and a few more in the next two games leaves my preferred eleven for the Droylsden match in two weeks looking like so..

Firstly though, the next two games..

18.8.09 Vauxhall Motors 1-1 Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood Scorers; Seddon (2)
Summary; A late equaliser for Vauxhall motors doesn't half drive me up the wall..

22.8.09 Fleetwood Town 3-0 Eastwood
Fleetwood Scorers; Seddon (pen 17), Guichard (40) & Husband (44) .. MOM; Clancy (8.0)
Summary; My biggest win yet and a first man of the match award for Sean Clancy my left back (more awards to follow and also some interesting trivia at the end of this post..)

29.8.09 Droylsden 0-2 Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood Scorers; Seddon (25 &37) .. MOM; Seddon (8.8)
Summary; Lone striker and top scorer sends me into raptures by winning me a game I heavily expected to lose.. One of them a scorcher from at least twenty-odd yards..

31.8.09 Fleetwood Town 0-0 Workington

MOM; Clancy (7.5)

Bore draw to end the month keeps my team seven games unbeaten (results-wise not physically i must add) and leaves the table like this..

15 points after 7 games meets my target of two points per game (hypothetically winning every home game and drawing every away game)

Into September..

5.9.09 Redditch 1-1 Fleetwood Town

Fleetwood Scorers; Seddon (pen 19) .. MOM; Clancy (7.2)

8.9.09 Farsley 0-0 Fleetwood Town
MOM; Beeley (7.2)

Third boring draw in a row (nine unbeaten) and injuries plus lack of fitness for those available to play seems to be affecting my team.. Hopefully a comfortable win against lowly Corby in the next match will set things straight..

Summary; A last minute winner is not enough in my opinion but delighted ever the same..

19.9.09 Hyde 0-1 Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood Scorers; Farro (49) .. MOM; Mcnulty (7.4)

FA Cup Qualifiers (Grouped Together)

With the first of these qualifiers included I am on an eleven match unbeaten run in all competitions but find myself not pleased with the manner of the results.. As Fabio Capello once found out at Real Madrid, it's not about getting the results; it's how you get them. I keep my tactics the same but find myself opting to control rather than counter (rookie with this new game btw) and play more aggresively in general.. Now we'll do it with style hopefully!

3.10.09 Fleetwood Town 3-0 Gainsborough
Fleetwood Scorers; Seddon (23) & Farro (33, 63) .. MOM; Farro (9.1)
Sumary; A wonderful performance which meets my high expectations and sends the fans home happy.. dominated from start to finish..

Don't get too comfortable in that dugout now..

17.10.09 Gloucester 2-0 Fleetwood Town

27.10.09 Northwich 4-1 Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood Scorers; Guichard (24)
Summary; Now back to back defeats in the league ends a fifteen match unbeaten run in all competitions and makes me wonder if style is really that important..

31.10.09 Fleetwood Town 2-1 Alfreton
Fleetwood Scorers; Guichard (43) & McNulty (74) .. MOM; Elcamam (8.0)
Summary; Last match of the month and sticking to my more aggressive style I come out on top in a hard thought match. Steve 'The Beast' Mcnulty does the damage for the second time this season and hopefully now that my injury woes are drawing to a close we can yet again go on a marvellous run.. League as it stands..

One point behind my target..

Special Mention
All throughout the FM series we always acquire a player who we pay that extra special attention to; one who will forever achieve that certain cult status in you the manager's eyes only.. for me it was Keith Kelly (East Stirlng in 08) and also Roman Zozulya (Rushden 09) and now we have Roberto Elcaman! stats so far..

P.S
The interesting trivia i found on my left back Sean Clancy is he is the brother of the absolutely stunning model and fiance of Peter Crouch, Abi Clancy! I have a picture of the two here and its safe to say that one of them must have been adopted..
