After not buying FIFA this year I am craving that manager mode. I know it's two separate worlds but want something more in depth.

Any major tips or must know info?
Would really appreciate it.

Hmm well...
1. Dont get discouraged too easily especially when making your own tactics, sometimes it can be quite detrimental however this year's version flows better.

2. If you are like most fifa players then you need to change the way you value players, somebody like Pirlo might be pretty bad on fifa because of 0 pace but can be very good on fm, some goes for walcott the other way but still pace is pace and its good.

3. Dont expect to be winning every game, you win trophies by being consistent like in real life so you need to be ready to deal with a crisis, thats probably the hardest part of the game

Yeah I'm looking forward to the lows so that the highs may seem better. How does the rating system work is it a scale of 1-100?

What do you mean by rating scale? The overalls that are in FIFA?

Players have attributes ranging from 1 to 20.

Personally I'd recommend trying out FMC first, as it has less features and will be easier to accommodate to. After getting familiar with the basic principles of the game, you'll have a smoother transition moving to the full version.

Far more in-depth than FIFA...

Each player has 14 technical and 14 mental attributes, along with 8 physical attributes (you'll see this in-game). Obviously GK technical attributes are different. These attributes are rated 1-20.

However, there are hidden current ability's and potential ability's for each player (you can find them on the editor if you care), and these are rated 0-200. Although you do have -1 to -10 for some players potential ability (-10 being wonderkid). I wouldn't get involved in the editor at this stage, far too confusing and way too much data!! You can get a general idea of the player's overall CA and PA by scouting players or getting coach reports on your players.

I started FM when it first came out and can't imagine starting FM at this stage as it's so in-depth now, so I would highly recommend FMC! Also, take the tutorials for the game and don't be afraid to use the help notifications in-game.

All I can say is start with a really good team, continental and domesticaly. But first, do the tutorials and start on FMC (Football Manager Classic)

For your first save I would recommend picking a top club that you know well.

When setting up your tactic try to emulate the club's real life tactic. It's easy to get confused at first, and having a singular focus will help keep you on track.

Take you time when you first start, look through every menu and sub-menu, hover over everything and read the tooltips.

Don't worry about results too much, it's your first save and things WILL go wrong. A few matches in you will realize your mistakes and want to start all over. Don't worry about this too much, your first save is an experiment .(really every save is a learning experience, you will always be learning new ways to master different styles of play)

The first piece of advice I would give is play with a strong team who are one of the favorites for the title. This will give you insight into how transfers work and there will be less room for mistakes.

Unlike FIFA teams setup on FM how they would in real life so if a relegation candidate is away to Man City then they will probably put men behind the ball and play a very deep defensive line.

Your tactics should change slightly from game to game, for example if you are away to Arsenal then an advanced forward will probably be more effective because of the space behind the defence whereas against West Ham at home a deep lying forward will be better because of the deep defensive line.

If you do create your own tactic keep it simple, a player very rarely needs more than 1 or 2 instructions to be effective.

I usually spend a couple of hours setting up the club in the first day, I setup my tactics, sack/hire staff, identify decent youngsters scout potential transfers and who decide I want to sell.

Good luck.

1. Don't worry about losing games early on, things take time such as players gelling and getting used to the formation.

2. Don't spent too much too soon, this leads on from the first point. You might finish well one season then spend 200mil on players completely destroy any fluidity your team had and struggle for 3 months.

3. Player attributes are much more in depth, learn what is affecting players and how. Just because a ST has 18 finishing doesn't mean he'll be all that great infront of goal. Creativity, Decisions, Composure, Technique and numerous other little factors come into play.
Like Fragnet said, 20 pace and 20 flair doesn't make a player great, this isn't FM12.

4. Either start with a team you know and like or aim for one of the bigger teams in an easier league. Porto are a prime example of this, good system in place, solid team and a fairly easy league.

5. Backroom staff are important, go through all the squad options and check who's doing what and how good they are. Better couches improve player development, better scouts give more reliable reports etc

It'll be very overwhelming at first but if you stick at it, it'll be incredibly rewarding.

First save, pick a team you are familiar with just to test the waters. Don't be too discouraged when you do lose seen as it will be your first save so you will learn from your mistakes for when you play again.

This game is a lot more in-depth than Fifa so don't just buy a winger for his high pace. Consider his crossing, dribbling, technique and his mental stats.

Tactically this game is also a huge step up from Fifa. If you struggle with tactics at first (A lot of people do) read some guides that are across other forums that will help you.

Cheers guys, hopefully all this will help and in a few months I'll be a decent FM player

I' m probably going to get skinned by my fellow managers but if you want this game to be a challenge, play against a mate or more. If you' re starting with one of the big guns and you know a bit about managing, you' ll find it fairly easy as only your own lack of experience and ineptitude will deny you from signing the best players available and thus gaining an upper hand over the Ai. This coming from a guy who not only loves the series but has played it for over 10 years. Other than this, enjoy it, it' s one **** of an experience.

Also guys where is the best place to buy it? Price and security wise

Buy forehead protection to stop the bruising when you headbutt your desk repeatedly and insure your monitor because you will want to punch it.... a lot, expect to change from a normal person into a spleen venting forum monster within 18 month of playing FM.

I am quite new too my friend. I have started last year and I feel like I am only understanding how it really works this year. I've made quite a few good seasons last year, but I was still learning, and still today, but I am getting better.

You will see, once you get frustrated, scream and if you continue some day you'll have fun and forget to go to sleep!

Best place to buy it's STEAM!
