FM2011 Mac won't launch from steam after update two days ago.. Help!!!

I have a Mac running os x 10.5.8. I use steam to play one game only, Football manager 2011. It recently updated the game (couple of days back) and launched directly from the update and worked fine. I didn't play the game yesterday. today when I load steam it loads fine. i click 'play' to play the game and it launches the window saying that it is launching the game but where it would normally start loading the game it just flickers back to steam on my desktop. When I now find two things. One, if I try to quit steam it tells me that I have to quit out of Football Manager 2011 first but football manager isn;t running. Rather, it's running in the background as it shows when I run 'force quit'. I then force quit it after a couple if tries. TWO: Steam itself won't quit. I try to quit with the 'apple + Q' buttons but it doesnt fully quit. even when I force quit it it still shows the dot next to it in the sidebar to show it is still active and i need to do it again before I can shut the macbook pro down.

unitl today it was running fine, more or less (well, it might have been buggered yesterday I don't know as I didn't use it).

help me get the game running again please, I'm dying here (although, conversely, the wife seems positively jubilant!).
 
Ok here's what I've done. I went here

Football Manager? 2011

And downloaded and ran the esellerate patch for mac. Don't buy the game. Just quit out when it gets there and launch FM2011 through steam. It worked for me but I lost my saved games (although it remembered alot of preferences and stuff). This may be because I deleted the game, and steam, several times before I got it working again. I'd love to know if it works for you. Good luck.

Ps: I was in the year 2021/22 on my saved game and that's gone now.

Pps: if this works for you I AM a genius despite what my wife says.

I'm running Football Manager on OSX through Steam as well, but what update did you receive? I haven't got any update in the past two days, as far as I can remember.

By the way, if you're really a genius, you would have backed up your save game. ;)
 
Right-click on FM11 on steam and then click on 'properties' from the drop down list. The properties box will pop-up, select the local files tab and click on 'verify integrity of game cache'. Ignore/decline the first popup box about the revoke product key and let it check the files.

I tried this on TDU2 when it wouldn't start up after an update and it worked. So it might be worth a try - I don't know if it's any different for Mac users.

I don't know where the update came from, it just did some updating.

I'm having exactly the same problem, Steam updated automatically and it stopped FM11 from launching.

Non of the above methods have worked so far..
 
Ok. On the link I mentioned above. I tried the other patch for mac before the one I mentioned but it kept asking for a disk so I deleted it then ran the other as per above and it worked. Could try that? Mind. Delete all the files first.

The update was to fix the bug with FM 2011 not launching in the OSX Lion update.
 
Mine wont load on my mac and ive tried everything everyone said and non of it works :(
 
You guys are best asking over at the official forums to find why your games will not launch on Mac. Mine is running on Mac OSX 10.6.8 with no problems, and with the latest Lion compatibility patch installed via Steam.

FM11 no load

I'm having the same problem too, I messaged steam support through their online question system 2 days ago as soon as I noticed the bug. Then 2 follow ups to ask why noone is replying to my questions, still no answer...lame.
It is since the update and nothing mentioned works.
I would call them if I could find a number, because their current support system is ****.
What do we do?
 
And here also the same problem, no one has a solution?

Well, I have just uninstalled and deleted Steam and their FM11 and bought a hard copy.
People told me not to do a digital download of FM11 because of this very problem and I hate to say it but they were right.
Steam should be ashamed of itself, their customer service is even worse than BT and thats saying something. No reply from them in nearly 5 days despite my regular attempts at contact.
Sorry chaps, it seems our only option is to buy another copy as I have today - (£19 from Game) - or wait till FM12....well I couldn't possibly wait that long!
