Football Manager 2011 FAQ
Welcome to the Football Manager 2011 FAQ - within this thread should be the answers to the majority of questions you may have when running the game, and answers to any errors you may come across. Once again this year we have combined with SEGA to produce and Online Manual which will replace the old-fashioned paper one you used to get with the game. Patches
We always recommend running the latest version of the game. However you do not need to start a new game to be able to use the patch, you can continue your save games from both the demo and the original version of Football Manager 2011. However if you want the latest database you will need to start a new game. The patches can be downloaded and installed the following ways:
Electronically Bought Versions of the Game
This includes Steam and copies bought from Vendors on-line such as Direct2Drive and GAME.
In all cases the release version of Football Manager 2011 is already at code version 11.1 and should not be patched manually. If you do this you will corrupt your installation and will need to perform a full removal and re-install of the game. Please do not patch downloaded versions of the game.
Steam
With Steam your game will auto-patch when you connect to Steam. DO NOT manually patch a Steam version of FM.
To patch boxed copies or DVD versions of Football Manager you will need to manually download and install the patch depending on your version.
There are two options for download, either directly (from a hosted site) or via a Torrent. Details on how to use torrents can be found below.

How to use a Torrent:
Find a torrent program that will suit your needs, the most common clients are Utorrent, Deluge, Vuze and BitTorrent. There are plenty of other clients available as well.
Follow the instructions on downloading and installing your chosen client. Download the torrent via the link provided.
Usually, the web browser's file download manager will ask what to do with this file. You want to open the file with your torrent program.
If it doesn't open that way, just save the .torrent file to an easy to locate place. Then open your torrent client and use the "Open Torrent" feature (Most torrent clients support click & drag).
The download will start automatically. You may now go and do something to pass the time, because torrents do not require your attention and will download in the background.
Install Issues
Some users have been getting a message after installing:
"The installation of Football Manager 2011 is finished, but some warnings occurred during the install. Please see the installation log for details."
or
"The installation of Football Manager 2011 is finished, but some errors occurred during the install. Please see the installation log for details."
This is due to a conflict with the Games Explorer in Windows Vista and Windows 7, you will be able to run the game from the location it has been installed to (for example: C:/program files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2011/) without any issues.

If you are having troubles with certain Bundesliga sides not having any players visible in their reserve sides, try this thread.
My computer will not read my DVD disc
Please make sure your DVD is free from dust and smudges. If the disc has become dirty clean with a soft dry cloth until the surface of the disc is clear. To do this wipe from the inside of the disc to the outside, do not clean the disc in a circular motion this can damage your disc.
Also please make sure you practice routine maintenance on your DVD drive. A commercially available lens cleaner will help keep your DVD drive in top condition.
If you have followed the advice above yet you still have a problem then you can download the game in Steam without using the disc using the game code you have from your purchased game.
- Download the Steam client - http://store.steampowered.com/about/
- Install Steam on your computer
- Once installed, open up Steam
- Go to My Games
- Go to Activate a product on Steam
- Enter your Activation Code found on the back of the manual.
- Steam should now download your game.
My PC won't let me install the game
If you are having trouble installing the game please make sure you are on an Administrator account for your PC.
If it is failing on an administrator account try creating a new account and installing the game there:
To create a new account with administrator rights:
- Click Start
- Control Panel
- User Accounts
- (if using Vista or 7 click Manage another account)
- Create New Account
Choose account name eg. “Games”
- Click Next
Choose “Computer Administrator” as Account Type
- Click Create
After the account has been created
- Log Off via Start and Switch User
Choose the new account (eg. Games) to log in and install under the newly created account.
I don't have Java installed on my machine and I'm having issues with the Demo Installer
The installer we use makes use of Java and therefore it's important to ensure you have the latest version, particularly if you are experiencing problems during the installation process.
1. Uninstall any version of Java you have first.
2. Visit this website: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
3. Find the correct version for your Operating system and download/install from here
