Thought this might come in handy for anyone who cant decide whether to buy FM 14.

So i bought FM14 on offer for ?20 which i thought was pretty good. I didnt buy FM13 i was using 12 still (lol) so it was a big jump for me to 14 with lots of changes.

I still dont understand the match prep/training and it seems overly complicated, although i think iv begun to get the hang of it.

The big obvious change is the tactics, which at first i hated. I found them awkward and id never used shouts at all in the previous games, but after reading on the internet and finding out that the shouts are actually the same as the sliders (invisible sliders) you just have to understand what each one is compared to the old slider system, well this made me able to use the same tactic ive used since fm 2008, success! (SI could do with making this clearer).

As for the rest of the game, well its Football Manager, the game seems to run faster than FM12 for me, and iv no crashes as of yet (touch wood). Its the same successful formula with some nice additions which im enjoying. Transfers seem a little more realistic so far which is great.

I must admit i find the interface a little awkward, the drop down menu when you press continue i dont feel is nescessary and i wish i had the option to remove it. Also the dark skin wasnt included with the game as with previous years, you have to download it from the "steam workshop" which i thought was pointless and it should just be there ready to use (it makes a big difference to me!)

My verdict:
Tactics need improvement in future versions, but a good start to a new system.
Game engine is much better (compared to FM12, i can actually cross the ball!) and although defending took me some tweaking i find this is the same with each years FM version.

Score: 8.5/10

I dunno, think i need another month with it to properly review it, haven't had a success yet in 6 saves lol, not enjoying it too much but i'll stick at it until the PS4 arrives :P

Due to the ME issues, right now it's a solid 7/10. If they can fix the ME problems I'd give it a 8/10.

Reason why I'd not higher is because, while I agree the game is moving forward to be more realistic, and I'm fine with it. For the past, what 3 games now, it seems unless you get more than 30 shots on goal you can't score or you scrape a win with only 5. I don't find that too realistic.

But SI's view of that is when smaller teams beat dominant bigger teams. Which yes does happen. But FM just goes all out crazy. In real life that many shots don't usually happen anyway. Here's a few example for you:

Swansea vs Stoke. Game 3-3. Swansea 17 shots, Stoke 6. In FM for that Swansea would probably have had about 30 shots and Stoke 12. But this is also a good example of lots of shots doesn't mean lots of goals. But FM, like I said, goes way to over board with it.

Chelsea vs West Brom 2-2. Chelsea 17 shots, West Brom 11. Note still not into the 20's and these are higher scoring games.

Southampton vs Hull. 4-1. Southampton 15 shots, Hull 10 shots. This one you would question on FM maybe. But Hull had lots of long shots.

Here's a couple where there were a lot of shots:

Man City 7-0 Norwich. Man City shots 27, Norwich 7. 27 shots = 7 goals for City. 27 FM shots usually = 1/2 if you're lucky. Not always, but we're seen numerous examples now.

The next example is similar to FM. Liverpool 4-0 Fulham. 32 shots for Liverpool, 4 shots Fulham. But when you look at Liverpool's shots, loads came from out of the area.

So while I'm not saying having a lot of shots to little goals doesn't happen, in FM it seems to happen in every single game. This has been the case for that past 3 games, and for me, it's just not realistic. Don't get me wrong, upsets do happen, and in the Premier League, this season especially, anyone can beat anyone. But the shots on goal thing if you play attacking football is way over the top and needs to be fixed.
