I'm thinking about only buying english players for my team. Is this beneficial?

At the start of the game you can get a fairly decent English team together.
After 3-4 seasons though a lot of those players will be getting on a bit and you'll struggle to find regens that can come into the team and compete at the top levels.
England never produces many great regens I find which means you'll often be stuck filling your youth team with africans, random europeans and southamericans.

is it beneficial to have a team of only (any) one nationality or does it make no diffenence?
It's not really beneficial. You'll have to pay more than for equally talented foreign players, and won't be able to get a title challenging standard for every player in the squad, as it's inevitable that some of the best english players will be at one or more of your rival clubs and not want to move. It might help with squad harmony but i've never really noticed a big difference.
I do like putting a british squad together when I manage in england though. The best bet would be to try with a mid table team (so there are more players good enough to start for you) or Man City as you have the money to pay over the odds for rival english players.

If you really want to build a team of players from a single country i'd suggest Italy, Spain, Brazil and maybe France. First three have a lot of solid players around for most positions and I find france produce some very good players.
I don't see you getting any real benefit from it though, squad harmory wouldn't matter much because that increases anyway as players gel together and play more. It could possibly help the national team but then you'd need to probably be in control of that team too making sure you use the same/similar tactics.

I second france. I normally always do a save as Lyon. They have a mostly french squad already, with alot of young talent and as TJ said france usually produces good regens. You can make a shortlist of about 20 french players (if you don't use the summer update) that will be good enough to make up a title & champ's league challenging squad.
