1. When I used to play FM back in the day I used to watch the matches in the commentary mode with a radar box at the bottom with moving dots to see how the game was going (Right now I watch the games in commentary mode without the radar so I am clueless about which tactics to employ and am not a big fan of the 3D mode). I just wanted to know if this feature is still there in FM'09 and if it is, how do I activate it?

2. As I am unsure if my computer could handle the large database I went for the medium one. In doing so am I missing out on anything interesting? And is there a way I can shift to the large database in the middle of a game?

no way to upgrade your database size mid game unfortunately.

you can watch the game in 2d match view by selecting how the match is viewed on the match day screen.

As far as I can see there is no major difference between large and medium database, except medium loads faster
