My Challenge
I have downloaded the extra German leagues which takes you all the way down to tier five. I will follow the model of only using products of my youth development system. This means I can not buy players, loan players, or sign free agents. I can, however, re-sign any youth players i am either forced to sell or that I might let go. I will aim to keep improving my facilities and recruitment system as we progress through the leagues. It's fitting of a German team, efficient and self serving. It follows a route most German teams now take

For the challenge in hand, I looked to the lowest tier, in the 'Lower Rhine' region. The club of my choice is KFC Uerdingen. I chose them due to their history of being a top division team that has fallen from grace. Uerdingen were once third place finishers in the Bundesliga. They have an excellent stadium, capacity of 34,500 (10,000 standing due to German football endorcing standing sections i guess) with, apparently, a fairly loyal support which should mean a decent, steady standard of attendances. They do have fairly average facilities, but they should do for this season.

I chose Uerdingen for a very personal reason. A former player for the club, a footballing legend, Brian Laudrup. He is one of the greatest players ever to play for Rangers, my team, and he is a childhood hero of mine. A truly wonderful player and one of the best ever to grace the game.

*DISCLAIMER*
I will do my best to keep on top of this and keep it updated. I'll do most of my challenge through the weekends, and I'll attempt a few hours on week nights as I have work, but I'm sure I will enjoy this enough to keep it going steady.

What sort of crowds do they get? Looks like a good save i'll watch with interest.

Not started yet mate, but I shall tomorrow after work. It's all set up and ready to go. As they apparently have a 'loyal support', I'd guess it'll be a decent enough attendance each game.

Should help with the finances at least.

£1.4m debt, over my wage budget too. It is as if it's a new revolution for this club, fallen from grace for whatever reason and now will only use products of their youth development for the rest of their history.

Itching to get home and get it started. 5 more hours to go :@

Start As You Mean To Go On

Pre-season was a write-off, I accidentally didn't select the proper starting date for Germany.

Our Adventure begins - An away day to Ratingen. How would we fare?

View attachment 304498

A comfortable 2-0 win, a good start. We must mean to go on in this winning fashion.

The chairman was looking to step aside. Somewhat worrying, who knows what kind of new owner we would get?

View attachment 304500

Now the takeover talks began.

View attachment 304501

An embargo... not to worry, this might aswell be perminent.

View attachment 304502

The new owner, Sterzenbach, informs me of no immediate plans of investment. Good! I don't want any 'easy starts'.

14 games in, how were we looking? Some poor draws, and a couple of shocking loss' that shouldn't have happened.

View attachment 304504

3rd... not too good, not too bad. We might deserve to be higher though.

Here are the stats for my squad. We basically have no strikers so I've had to use youth, which may be my downfall.

December - May

Things were not looking good in December for us... well off the pace and very inconsistent. Simply not good enough.

At one point, my challenge was nearly cut short. One poor result and I was out the door... Could I keep my job?

View attachment 305004

By February, I had turned my season around and slowly, but surely, we became more consistent.

View attachment 305005

A massive win, made a change from the usual boring one nil wins.

This seemed to keep happening... one month we recieved £350k from the board. While I didn't want an easy run with money, it helped with running costs and no more, thankfully.

I wonder why they wanted me sacked? This was some turnaround! The league was must win due to only ONE promotion place.

View attachment 305009

Oh, so you are happy now?

View attachment 305010

A trophy in the cabinet.

The final standings. Essen were an awful team to play/ They were running away with things until a massive dip in form that seen me take advantage of.

View attachment 305012

We hadn't lost in the league since 2012. Bar a few draws, we won almost every single game since then.

View attachment 305013

The final goal and asist tallys and asists. As you can see, I had changed my tactics which obviously helped.

The best of my youth intake... very highly rated.

Update coming tonight or tomorrow. Very, very close to promotion to the third tier of German football. Possibility of back to back promotions both times as champions.

Leaving this for a while and starting one in the English leagues.

I'm not entirely decided, it's just been a bit boring so far.

The lower leagues can be. Believe me when your fighting tooth and nail for promotion it gets interesting fast!

Won the fourth tier, in a play off now against one of the potentially relegated teams. Thye have an unreal squad in comparison to me. So despite winning the league I have to play a play off, and unless the standard of my team dramatically improves then I don't know how I'll ever get up to Bundesliga 3... I'll attempt it though.

Good thing about the English leagues is you can slowly progress. I need to get up the divisions to build on my youth set up and facilities. I can't do that with poor players unless a miracle happens.

If i win the play off, I'll continue with this story but it is looking near impossible.
