hi guys,
im currently on the scnd place with my tottenham side, scored most and conceded less goals in the league. won away at emirates 0-2, absolutely dominated the game, but what ive noticed is, that im struggling, when it comes to those "easy" games against the sides of wolverhampton, blackpool and so on. i often dominate the game, but it almost takes 70-80 minutes to score the first goal. when i look at the motivation screen during the game, almost every player is grey and have status like ill-disciplinde, looking wound up and so on. what can i do against this problem? i dont use team talks, do you think bringing on a good assistant manager and letting him make the team talk would help? what do you do, when you have an incredible form, but always have a hard day, when you dont expect it?

complacent

Until you have a superior Assistant, you need to actually do the team talks. Expect performance of those that your assman warns you about pregame ( those showing complacency, the players that think that they can just turn up for today's match) After the matches and at half time, you need to show anger to the players that are complacent, no matter if they have put in a decent effort

Ill-disciplined

This has nothing to do with complacency but with instead with frustration, frustration of the match not going the way they want it. Here, its important that you tell them to stay on their feet and not trow them selves into tackles

Trouble with weaker teams

On the subject of you having trouble breaking down lesser teams that sit deep and defend against you, perhaps you need to play slightly different, using more of the pitch and in a slower tempo do drag the opposition out of position. In short, a probing breakdown appraoch

so, what do you think, i should say pregame against very low ranked teams? is "expect a win" ok? and what about not using team talks? will this have negative effects on the long term?

If you say nothing, you cant say something wrong, that is correct and whilst that approach might work initially, you cant correct things going bad by saying nothing. Here, you will simply be too passive. So, you have 2 choices. Firstly, you can plug &play and accept the fact that you will struggle with complacency, players lacking in confidence etc, or you can micro manage. Also remember that whilst you say nothing in the team talks, there is still a press conf that is held, both pregame and after the game and the things said here will affect your players to.

I like to manage a bit like Ferguson and José, I play mind games in the media. In public, I take all my players in defend when it matters their performance but when in the dressing room, I expect them to die for me
