This is going to be my last FM10 story before FM11 comes out and i think trying to achieve glory with Wigan will be an interesting and difficult challenge.

With last season drawing to a close Wigan have confirmed the departure of manager Roberto Martinez, who has taken up an offer from Vicente Del Bosque to become a coach for the spanish national team.

Martinez statement to the fans - 'i have had a fabulous 12 months at Wigan, but this new job was very hard to turn down. It's a fabulous club and i hope whoever takes up the reins will continue the work i started.'

Dave Whealan Statement - 'we are sad to see Roberto go but as he said his nation came calling. He will be forever welcome at the club. Looking to the future i am currently unsure on the route to take, with these troublesome financial times an experienced manager may be the way to go, but i still firmly believe a young manager who grows with the squad is still the best option for an adventourous club like ours, i can assure the fans now that he it will be the right man for the job and that Wigan Athletic will in the future become a european force.'

bob-bradley.jpg

Bob Bradley has today joined Wigan Athletic as the club's new manager. a club statement this lunch time revield the appointment and spoke of the chairmans excitment at the appointment.
'From a footballing point Bob is a very exciting appointment he is still up and coming which is odd considering his age, and has been linked with top clubs before taking over at our beloved club.'

A short statement from the Bradley camp simply said 'im delighted to be working in the premiership with such a fantastic club'

Sky Sports - 'How happy are you to be here Bob?'
'I'm absolutley delighted, to be asked to be the manager of Wigan filled me with immense pride.'

'Do you plan on raiding your native America for players and coaches etc?'
'I will deffinetly use my contacts in the US to try and lure players to the razmataz of the premier league, however, i will be looking to appoint english coaches who know the ins and outs of the league.'

'regarding Wigan what do you know of their history?'
'I know that this town loves rugby much more than their football, but with me at the helm i tend to swap that around, they have been to a league cup final in the past few years and i aim to take the club to many more. This has all been possible in my opinion due to the most sensational chairman who i look forward to working with.'

'Have you had your transfer budget set yet?'
'Yes we've spoken about that and its a very flexible budget if Mr.Whelan agrees that a certain player is needed he has said he would be willing to extend the budget'

'Any names in mind?'
'No not at the moment i will take a full view of the squad and then have a look where to improve'

'Finally, whats your message to the supporters of the club Bob?'
'Be prepared for a journey that will take this club where you never believed it could go, thanks guys'

Squad Breakdown

Goalkeepers - Chris Kirkland is a very steady number 1 and should be a decent premiership quality keeper for a couple of years. Ali Al Habsi is a very good back up loaned from Bolton with 70 caps for Oman he should provide good back up. At 37 Mike Pollitt is a decent enough 3rd choice keeper.
GK – Chris Kirkland, Ali Al Habsi, Mike Pollitt

Defence – We’ve lost two solid defenders this summer, Scharner going was a huge loss, but as he is currently without a club a return may not be such a shock. Yes Bramble was calamitous at times but he knows the premiership so I see it as a loss. Melchiot was also a big loss and leaves us needing a RB as Ronnie Stam is not a standout defender.
Maynor Figueroa is the stand out defender in the squad and i view Antolin Alcaraz and Gary Caldwell as solid defenders as well.

RB – Emerson Boyce, Ronnie Stam
CB – Antolin Alcaraz, Gary Caldwell, Steve Gohuri
LB – Maynor Figueroa, Charles Nzogbia*

Midfield – Far and away the strongest area for my new side, this area is very strong however lacks premier league experience i will look to continue the development of these young lads as well as bringing in new talent. N’Zogbia is the stand out player and im sure there will be much interest for him but he won’t be leaving.

DM – Mohamed Diame, Hendry Thomas
CM – James McArthur, Ben Watson, Daniel de Ridder, James McCarthy, Jordi Gomez
AM – Victor Moses, Charles N’Zogbia, Hugo Rodallega*

Strikers – Quite a weak area of the side with just 3 out and out strikers and Victor Moses who can also play up top, but none are proven goal scorers. Rodallega had a good first season and we will require more from him, Mauro Boselli is a very exciting new prospect breaking the clubs record transfer and i hope he can hit the ground running. The last striker Jason Scotland had a poor first season and struggled to make the step up, i will cash in on him and he will be expected to leave.

ST – Mauro Boselli, Hugo Rodallega, Jason Scotland, Victor Moses*

*not natural position.
I’ll be looking to improve all areas of the squad before the season begins, with hopefully some more experience and some exciting prospects.

Donovan Joins Latics in shock move as he joins up with Former USA coach

Landon Donovan has joined the American revolution at Wigan joining up with his former United States coach Bob Bradley, Donovan rejected big bids from Chelsea and Real Madrid among others.

'I've decided to join Wigan as they have sensational support, and i want to feel a key player in a club. At one of those other clubs i would have been just another player or maybe a becnh warmer. I play best when loved and i feel the way i play will indeer me to the Wigan fans'

Garay and Traore join Wigan's ranks

Bob Bradley has today improved his squad no end by snapping up two huge talents from european football. Ezequiel Garay is an aregntine youngster on the books at Real Madrid. Wigan have loaned in the player for a season.
Furthermore Radley has confirmed the signiture of the Ivorian Lacina Traore from CFR Cluj. Trarore has been touted as the next Didier Drogba by some camps and with signing him from the grasp of other european powerhouses and Victor Moses last year Wigan are showing that potential world beaters would prefer to join their lancastrian ranks than Europes elite.
