i was just wondering if anybody else has found the way the goalkeeper uses the ball can effect the way their team plays and since fm 11 (as i havent bothered in any of the previous fm's) i have decided to take a look at the way the goalkeeper plays.
im a firm believer in counter attacking, attractive football, mainly because of how the likes of barca and arsenal play, but also because i believe fast flowing football is the way to go.
i set my goalkeepers passing to as short as it will go and the distribution to defender collect. i find doing this draws midfielders and attackers further up the pitch to press and as a result the defenders have space to start a attack from the back by passing to your playmaker or a midfielder who is now in space. although it sounds stupid i also put the keeperes creative freedom as low is it will go also, i genuinely find that as a result he doesnt hang onto the ball for as long and gives it to a defender faster.

has any else tried this or have views?

i say it's a good call on limited creativity. in fact i'd stray away from anything unordinary with my GK unless he is exceptionally versatile (good GK attrb + high creativity/pace/acceleration). defender collect is my go to action, i just for example, because it's pretty stupid to encourage random goal kicks right into the opposition. a tactic here suggested specific targets for distribution and without question i began using it. i dominated the first few matches but the AI caught onto it and celtic beat me 2-0 in europe. long story short: don't risk conceding just to gain a negligible tactical advantage.
