Hi guys, just posting this problem on behalf of someone because he didn't know exactly how to approach the problem on here, I have attached the screenshot he sent to me.

He installed the game a week or so ago via Steam, the weird coloured box appeared straight away then disappeared after a few minutes. Now, a week later, the box has re-appeared and stayed which obviously can obscure things but is more annoying than anything else. Has it happened to anyone else and is there an easy way to get rid of it?

Is that what it is? Never had that problem myself, but he says that when he first installed it wasn't in windowed mode and it happened for a few minutes before it went off.

try this:

Reinstall the game without steam. (or find a way to edit the shortcut within steam)
Go to your football manager shortcut on the desktop (or steam) and right click it. Properties.
In the target window, edit the shortcut:

from
"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\fm.exe"

to
"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\fm.exe" -small_screen -windowed

basically, add the red text above to the target section of the properties window as you can see above. If you're using steam, don't change the shortcut to what i mentioned above just add the red text.
this should put the game in windowed mode and the small box (that ive only ever seen appear in fullscreen) will be gone.

Also make sure he has no virus scanner or firewall (or other program) in the tray bottom right of the screen that could be trying to load up a window and obscuring the game.

-- let me know how you get on with fixing it.

It seems to have worked although not initially. Because the game was already running in windowed mode, it stayed the same after that shortcut change, but I got him to change the shortcut back to the original state, run the game and select full screen in the preferences and then quit. Then he did the shortcut change again and it has worked this time.

Cheers for all help!

Where were you when we needed you Lee! Anyway, sorted now, and it was pretty simple anyway. I had no clue whatsoever at first, I installed via Unicom or whatever they call it.

Steam just ****** winds me up :P
I don't run it using steam but, there ya go. :D

Sorry i didnt know the proper solution but hey! My fix worked did it not? (Sort of) :P

I think you could've just double tapped Shift + Tab as well and that would've gotten rid of it.

yeah that brings up the silly steam interface. Whatever that is. And you can close it.
Still, i don't bother using the steam installation, i don't like it.
