Well I'm here as I am in need of help

i played football manager on the zx spectrum as a child
recently a friend told me to buy an iPad Air 2 as the football manager touch game was superb

I took his advice and have to say the game is absolutely amazing
I have take on the challenge of my boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday and the players I have seen to be great

however

i am struggling
the players are all in their favoured positions and my tactics are set up with a counter or defend away from home or a control at home and I can't seem to get any consistency

i have tried to tinker tinker with the side until I find a win or two but then I will play a poor side and get comprehensively beaten

am I treating it too real life and is there a way to get the most out of your players?

thanks in advance for any kind replies

Are you putting thought into how the tactic works as a whole or are you just simply putting everyone in their "best" position and role? Doing the latter isn't a great idea.

Yes I believe I am doing the latter
i suppose that's why I'm here for a little help on doing it the correct way

thanks for your response

Yeah, like I said, that's a bad idea. Football is a team sport and what you're doing is sending 11 individuals out there. Player quality might pull you through here and there, but overall it's a bad idea.

Players can be just fine in a "worse" role. The tactic is important though. It's a good idea to choose a formation and roles/duties which work together and also uses players in roles that highlight their strengths.

Easier said than done if you're a newbie. Are you looking for tactical guides, perhaps?

Sure, any ideas at all to get some consistency, I have managed to buy two of the best forwards in the division and neither of them can hit a barn door
