Good day!

I've been playing FM2010 for about 9 months and every team I go to I seem to ruin, usually finishing a season quite worse than expected.
My current game is with Arsenal, expected to challenge for the title, yes? No. I finish 8th.

It's my defence that lets me down, I banged in 80 goals in the season (higher than any other team) yet conceded 54.
My defence (L-R) was: Clichy, Gallas, Fazio, Sagna
Backup for these were: Gibbs/Traore, Sakho, Senderos, Vermaelen & Eboue

I played a 4-1-3-2 formation, with DM Alex Song, but still I concede goals left right and centre (Almunia GK).

What the heck's my problem?

I can upload screenies of tactics/whatever anyone would need to see to be able to tell me my fatal mistake?

Thanks in advance!

Ahem. See bolded. :P

Just kidding, but in all seriousness I'd invest in a better keeper. Upload a few screenies, they might help. There doesn't seem to be too much wrong with your defence on paper, but there might be a few things that we can glean from them.

wrong section, anyways
it depends on if you have got the starting stratergy on, if anything over control that could be a reason why, also the mentality of the defenders and also how far up ur fullback pushes and is there any cover for them. anyway the 4-2-3-1 is a great formation so how **** did you let in so many.
it took me a long time to figure out how to tighten up my defense and little things like leaving men back when a corner or FK is taken can help

Post a few screenies of your back 4 or a screenie of your squad stats, also let us know what player roles your using and using high/low defensive line etc and I'm sure someone will get to the bottom of it :)

Aresnal seem to constantly finish around 8th on my saves anyway so don't beat yourself up about it.

Your defensive problem might be to do with an over high line, too much closing down so no defensive shape or your other players doing no defensive work at all. Seeing as you got so many goals it's probably because your too aggressive, what are your -3-2 up to as they might be exposing your back 4 and Alex Song. Also it might be Almunia, especially if your conceding loads of long shots or something like that. I'm no fm whizz kid but I hope that helps mate :)

its in the right section

sure, what would you like to see?
team instrutions, the team screen with the player roles, screenshot of the rest of your squad, screenshots of any player instructions that you have manually tweaks

first your central midfield consists of arshavin and fabregas. no wonder your conceding, arshavin couldnt stop a paper bag. and considering you're playing with a very agressive front 4 you midfield needs to be more solid. if you want to play that formation you need a midfield general alongside fab, we're talking ultra consistent high class players. de rossi, marchisio, moussa sissoko etc

i would play a possession game too, you dont want to give away passes with that many players committed forward, use the shouts to change to more direct if needed

madsheep - i was playing Song/Fazio in DM all season injury permitting....

Well your playing the offside trap with players that probably speaking a different languages (if they speak the same language ignore this) so there might be something to say about your offside trap being easy to beat leaving strikers one v one against a weak keeper.

Also I really think less closing down is often a good thing as I find it pulls defenders all over the pitch, although this could be man marking, which (a la England vs. Germany) lets strikers find space shamefully easily to have chances against the already mentioned weak goalkeeper.

Also try possession football as this will hopefully reduce the number of chances possible for an opposing team to get as theyll be too busy chasing the ball and you've deffinately got the players at Aresnal to do it.

when people say "posession football" - how do i go about instructing this?

also; as I said earlier Ochoa will not come to me, any other solid keepers, or any other transfer suggestion for that matter?

take the manual setting off your tempo and set your passing to short. also short passing requires options so you dont want too many attack roles

go to any MMO forums, youll struggle to find a thread without the word noob in it.

Anyways, thanks for the advice - no doubt my team will do even worse and I'll be back here QQing

It might be an idea to use somebody else's tactic to build both your knowledge and your confidence.
Look no further than Mr Hough's wonder tactic.
