Help For Beginners (FM 12)

Hi, I recently bought the game and was wondering if anyone could help me out tactically please?

I just want an insight on how tactics work really. A few of the things I would like to know about are;

Philosophy
Strategy
Player Roles (e.g. Target man, Ball winning midfielder)
Playing Style
Player Duty (e.g. Support, Defend, Attack)

I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm stuck and need a bit of expert help. I'm well adapted to the 4-4-2 formation and don't really want to switch from it, so why are the things mentioned in the list above important, and when should I be using them?

Any help is much appreciated
