Hey all, in my formation, I have 3 central midfielders.

the most central one I have set as a "ball winner" but I've edited his sliders to make him just like an anchorman and he plays the role exactly how I want.

However, in order to improve my defense I dropped the left central midfielder into the exact same role as the anchorman with the same sliders (except "sometimes" on crossing/throughballs)

When I look at my match analysis screen and look at average position, the central anchorman sits just behind midfield and his heat map never shows anything in the opponents 3rd. However the left anchorman spends most of his time in the correct position, but the heat map shows that he gets to the opponents box from time to time!

Why is this? Is it because I have him crossing (from deep) and through balls to sometimes? Or is it because being on the left side he gets drawn in by the opponents wide players, that my central anchorman wouldn't? I also play with attacking wingbacks (i don't use any other winger) and the left anchor man feels inclined to run up the pitch to support him (he has almost full defense mentality)?

Any help is appreciated. However I must say it doesn't harm my tactic, just curious about why this happens.

Could you post your formation in a screenshot mate? Might help if we could see it and also some of your three midfielders?

I'm leaving for the day here in a few minutes so I'll post this

flat back 4 (wingbacks run from deep often and run with ball often)

-----CM-----CM--------CM
-
------------AM
-
-------ST--------ST

It's exactly like I posted above. I suppose I haven't taken my left anchor mans attributes into account, but he has little creative freedom to veer from my tactical instructions.

Personally id have your LCM and RCM as ball winning midfielders and your CM as the anchor man if you want to keep it defensive (maybe drop him back into a DM), however youve got to balance defence with attack in order to score goals. If it helps take a look at this thread to give you an insight on how to set up your midfield, obviously youll have a spare man in there. http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/foot...uide-formations-tactics-football-manager.html

He actually has "runs with ball through center". He is a loaned player so I didn't pay much attention to PPMs.

I may put in a different player to see what he does on the pitch.

and I have no problem with how I've set up my midfield. My wingbacks are hyper aggressive (cutting inside for goals and throughballs) and having an anchor man on the left provides security against counter attacks (as I've seen evidence of this in game) my MCR is slightly attack minded to make up for a defensive midfield. Works really well 3-4 goals per game.

"Runs with ball through centre" <-- That probably explains it, dude. :)

Could you share your tactic with me? This is just for me to understand personally. Maybe you could PM me if you have time. I don't want to copy or completely understand your tactic. I just want to know your train of thought and how you went about it, because you seem to have a good grasp on this. I figure the more I understand others' tactics and successes, the better I can tweak my own. :)

If you play om the break, players Will get forward even of not instdructed to. Also remember that the term rarely does not mean never and he Will move forward to make à passing option, close down à player etc . The reason for your central mc staying behind more is simply because the space infront of him is already taken by your Amc so he Will look for space deep instead to ne avaible as à passing option
