help wih contract

i cant get gerrard to accept a new contract as he doesn't want a squad role and when i put a SQUAD ROLE HE rejects it
any help

have you tried giving him the "Key Player" squad status?

yes and he just chnages it back to none selected and if i lock he puts his wage to a ridiculous amount i cant afford

its really strange but i dont want to lose him obvs

I had a similar situation in FM12 when i was Liverpool, i know this is abusing Gerrard's loyalty but more often than not he wants to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his career and will not negotiate with other clubs, so wait until you get closer to July 2015 when his contract does expire and give him a contract then, he will ask for lower demands and a more acceptable squad role...
