Help With Arrigo Sacchi 4-4-2 Milan 1989

I have 2 questions about this formation which I just cant seem to get my head round.

So far i understand that Arrigo Sacchi tactic was based pressing, zonal-marking, high d-line with offiside trap, attacking (5 players ahead of the ball all times)

1st thing is I have read a few times that his team moved as a unit so would that be V.fluid in FM terms ?

also player roles what were they

Im have got so far
Gk-GK
RB & LB-Fullback
Both CB- Centerbacks
RM & LM- Wingers

Now Im stumped, the next few role im guessing
Carlo Ancelotti - Deep lying playmaker
Frank Rijkaard- always thought he was a DM so im saying Deep lying playmaker
Ruud Gullit- always though he was a AM so im saying Advance Playmaker
Marco Van Basten- Complete Forward

Guillit i would say would have been a trequartista. maybe with van basten as the advanced forward.

if you wanna play with offside trap you must play with rigid or very rigid philosophy. Search for it...

Just read this about Ancelotti in a deep lying playmaker role.

So keep it or change to a support CM I always thought Ancelotti was a great pass

In FM it would be a very rigid 4-4-2 with very high defensive line, offside trap, high closing down, game focus on both flanks.

Full backs would be attacking, possibly using the "look for overlap" instruction (a key for Milan back then).

Central midfield I'd say Ancelotti CM support, while Rikaard maybe box-to-box as he really dominated the whole pitch in those days.

MR & ML wingers support. Gullit could be anything from advanced playmaker to trequartista or even deep lying FW (support). Van Basten would just be Van Basten!

Yeah something like that

Milan used a very consistent formation and style, though they would slightly change wingers' roles depending on who was playing: with Evani and Donadoni they had two out and out wingers doing most of the playmaking. But they would often play Colombo (mainly a ball winning midfielder) at ML instead, and in that case it would be a wide midfielder/defend, with the MR playing in a more attacking role.

Also, I would set team creative freedom quite low, with the exception of Gullit (high), Donadoni (MR) and Ancelotti (not a DLP, but did more playmaking than the other midfielders, and was renowned for his long range passing)

not sure how this would work, but it's pretty much how Milan played

Looks definitely slow if you watch with the eyes of a 2011 viewer. Football was much different in 1989, a fast attacking tempo in the 80's still looks kinda slow now but I can tell you it was fast-paced for the time especially for italian serie A standards.

Maybe you can search for Milan games on rojadirecta, they have some classic games of various sports in their downloadable matches section.

Watched about an hour of the match against Real Madrid and I have notice a few things .

1) When Milan havent got the ball Ruud Gullit drops deep to form a 4-4-1-1
2) Ruud Gullit seems to be one thats always goes for the flick on's I thought it would of been Van Basten
3) One of the Cb's think Baresi acted more like a covering defender
4) Ruud Gullit seemed to do a bit everything like a complete fwd would do

Completely forgot about this thanks for might started it up again for my united save currently playing a tika-taka style tactic but im not 100% happy with played 5 games won 2 and drawn 3 scored 7 conceded 4 so
