Nothing on this in related threads and Ive certainly never experienced this before so would someone pssibly be able to help?

Basically whoever i set to take my corners plays them short EVERY single time (or at least 90%) and i have corner taking in team instructions set to mixed.

I know many of you will want to recommend specific corner strategies and I will be looking into that soon enough but for the time being I need to get some crosses into the box, but for some bizarre reason all my corner takers and playing it short and then more often than not losing possession and leaving me open for a counter attack.

Help please as this is having a really detrimental effect on my games. I dont need to be scoring from corners all the time, not right now anyway, I just want opportunities! Im not greedy im just sick of seeing EVERY corner get completely wasted!!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on why this is happening :)

Try setting your corners to far post and have your tallest defender standing on the far post. Also set your other to challenge the keeper and the rest of your players a mixture of... Attack from deep, Attack far post, Lurk, Near post flick etc etc.

Also make sure you have 2 players set to stay back usually your full backs and then set your defensive midfielder or someone to stay back if needed. That will make it harder for teams to counter attack you :)

Thanks ill definitely give that a go (A), but do you know why this is currently happening? Ive been playing this game (FM&CM) since '97 and i've never seen it before - my corners are set to mixed so there must be a reason why they are all being taken short? oO)

Possibly your corner takers preference? Not sure. Aim your corners somewhere instead :)

Thanks i guess im just one of these old-schoolers who preferred when the games were less tactical. Now Im older and wiser i dont mind a bit of tactics but i still find the game far too in-depth and would have enough on my plate with each game to add set piece instructions to the list lol.

For example one thing i dont understand is that in this game, 'retaining possession' and playing short passing tends to be the option for weaker sides or trying to hold on to a lead at the end of a game - but millions worldwide just watched Spain lift the World Cup playing exactly that way.

If you have good passers with good technique and strength then why should short passing HAVE to be used with slow tempo - and why on Earth would 'pass to feet' and short passing option be for bad passers, while 'pass into space' and direct passing be for less technical players and weaker teams?!? I just don't get it.

Thanks for help though guys, i guess this one remains a mystery still - because whoever i use for corners just keeps playing it short.

Im still trying to nail the tactical side of this game, and every year it gets more in-depth and therefore harder. I mostly have a short but technically gifted squad so Id prefer to play like Spain/Barcelona, especially when at home, but I ALWAYS have the most success in this game when i play on the counter, fast and direct, regardless of my team/players.

Es loco mis amigos!! 8-|

Edit: Also nice to receive advice from fellow Reds supporters!! Go Stevie G!! lol

Haha. Just like to say mate the part I have put in bold in your quote is not fully true. For example I am currently making a tactic which uses shorter passing and a very quick tempo. Very exciting when you get in the attacking third. Just try different things with tactics and sometimes it does come off, it doesn't always have to be essentially matched.
