Hi,

I'm currently working on an Australian Database & I need some help creating an FA cup style competition. I can create the comp no problem using the in game editor but what I'd like to do is have the top 24 teams come in at a later stage as they do in the FA Cup but I just can't get my head around the maths. I have 582 teams & 10 cup rounds (including Final & qualifying) I'd like the top 24 to join about the round of 64 or 32 although anywhere is fine just as long as they get a few rounds off. I'd be even more pleased if say the next best 48 or 64 teams come in a round or two earlier but this is not crucial. Can anybody help?

You could do it like this, in 12 rounds

Round 1 - 476 new entries | 238 winners progress
Round 2 - 238 winners + 18 new entries | 128 progress
Round 3 - 128 winners | 64 progress
Round 4 - 64 winners + 64 new entries | 64 progress
Round 5 - 64 winners | 32 progress
Round 6 - 32 winners | 16 progress
Round 7 - 16 winners | 8 progress
Round 8 - 8 winners + 24 new entries | 16 progress
Round of 16
Quarter final
Semi Final
Final
(Your lowest ranked 494 teams enter spaced over rounds 1 and 2, 2nd best 64 (as requested) get in at round 4, and your top 24 go in round 8.)

Alternately you could enter the 64 in round 6 and the 24 in round 7, it wouldn't make any difference to the rest of the lower entries:

Round 1 - 476 new entries | 238 winners progress
Round 2 - 238 winners + 18 new entries | 128 progress
Round 3 - 128 winners | 64 progress
Round 4 - 64 winners| 32 progress
Round 5 - 32 winners | 16 progress
Round 6 - 16 winners + 64 new entries | 40 progress
Round 7 - 40 winners + 24 new entries | 32 progress
Round 8 - 32 winners | 16 progress
Round of 16
Quarter final
Semi Final
Final

Hope that helps

Fantastic Job Lami, just what I was looking for. I'll use one of the two for my cup.

How do you get your head around the Maths? Is there a formula you use?

Glad I could help :)

I use Excel to do all the calculations for me, I''ve got a spreadsheet saved that i use when I'm making custom cups.
