I'll get to the point.

Got him in my City save and I just want to make sure he's scoring a lot. I've finished pre-season and he keeps steering off to the wings instead of moving through the middle of the park, leading to Navas and Aguero bagging most of the goals. Below are SS of my main tactic and what current instructions I have him doing.

Any help on tweaking would be much appreciated!

I haven't got FM14 so I don't know if they changed the player roles but since Messi's role is support, he'll look to fashion out chances for his teammates as well as himself, instead of taking all of the chances himself (if that makes sense). Also, his instruction is to 'move into channels' which is the area in between the centre back and the fullback, so he wouldn't usually be in the middle of the park. I'd look to change your tactics if you want to score more with Messi. Have you made Messi your team's target man?

Could be in-game or pre-game editor? Ronaldo likes United, no way he'll sign for City. Messi has "Would prefer not to play in England" Career plan.

Lol. The defense is extremely vulnerable even with Silva and Kompany. Counter attacking teams will have a feeding frenzy.
Ronaldo is a poor passer and you have made him a play maker. Messi has extremely low work rate and you have made him a CF. Change these to what they do IRF, mate. Its pointless having them.

I was trying to skirt round accusing him of using the editor to build his team, but yeah, it's pretty much the only way he could have got all these players.

You can all laugh and point, or answer the question. Everyone in that pic could be 35 years old ffs.

You'l need to change Messi to more line leading if you want him to get the goals, with support he'll drop off and drift wide more, consider an advanced forward or poacher, possibly swap with Ronaldo and make Messi an IF off the left. With Ronaldo also being support he's more likely to dirft in and around, than do what he is best at and run at players.

Funnily enough almost the exact formation i have for my City team but with
Silva->Ronaldo,
Toure-> Rossi,
Messi-> Negrado

There is nothing wrong with having a laugh at something. There was nothing mean spirited about it. Messi's best position is as an AMC - T. He absolutely dominates out of the position and will score at will. Swap him with Aguero and make Ronaldo an IF-A on the left.

Messi as poacher? Btw inside forwards are inverted Wingers, he's left footed, how would be using him on Left wing as IF a good idea? IF are like Hazard, or Ronaldo. Right footed Wingers on Left wing.
He started his career at right wing as IF, cut in and shoot. That's also why he tends to drift there.
He's not just a poacher to score, he makes whole team tick, he also drifts wide to drag along the marker on him.
Ronaldo has Shoots from distance PPM, his as striker will result in him shooting whenever he receives ball, which will frustrate the OP.
Fabregas should be playmaker.
Aguero is also more likely to shoot than pass, low team work and shoots from distance PPM.

Sorry he has a AP on the left, Messi can easy play that, I suggested Messi as poacher as that who he wants to get the goals. Due to roaming nature of most of his front line, i thought that would be easiest.. :) He cant play right aas Navas is only a right sided player, Aguero is in the hole so left was left over, and he'll be free role mostly anyway with his PPM and stats.

He as too many playmakers to make this work as he wants i think... i agree on Fab, but he wants this going through Messi.. :)

I always play Messi as no.10, Advanced Playmaker. He scores and assists quite a bit. I think he's more effective as No.10 or False 9 which is basically a no.10 playing as striker. And meanwhile he's using editor, he can increase Messi's work rate.

well, in my 1-3-3-3 tactic i have on here, i use messi as the right winger and have ronaldinho as the AP in the centre, sentimental ol' fool, i guess, just love that brazillian :P still awesome and dirt cheap x) Messi works far better and the AMC/Wings for the team than he does as as striker.
