Hey guys,

I’m new on here and was wondering if anybody could help me out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

To give you some background, on my current save for FM10 I began by managing PSG for two seasons. In these seasons, I won: 1 league, 2 French Cups, 1 CDL & 1 CT. After that I decided I needed a new challenge to started to manage Zaragoza who were in the Spanish second division and were expected to finish 3rd. Half way through the season I had them in 2nd, 1 point off first. At this point I was offered the Juventus job, which I decided to take. This is where my problem begins!

When I took over they were in 10th, by seasons end I got them to 4th, lost the IC final to Roma and won the Europa League by scraping a win over Man City. However, my team constantly played poorly, my defense did OK but I struggled to create chances and score. Most games I would scrape a win 1-0, draw or lose heavily. Most of the time I played 4-2-3-1 with fluid instructions set either to attack or control. In the off-season I signed Luis Suarez, Bangoura and Krancjar to strengthen my team.

Im now into my first full season with the team and I am getting the same results, poor performances and when I win, it’s usually down to an individual wonder goal. My usual starting 11 is:

----------------------Buffon-----
Torres – Vertonghen – Chiellini – Criscito
------------ Marchisio – F.Melo ----
----Bangoura –---- Diego –---- Giovinco
--------------------- Suarez

My tactics are set to:

Philosophy: balance / strategy: control / passing: shorter / marking: zonal / everything else balanced

Player instructions:

GK & CB: defend, no creative freedom / FB’s: slightly less defensive, a bit more freedom / March Is a supporting ball winning mid / Melo is a box2box support – average creativity for both / Bangoura & Giovinco are inside forwards with high creative freedom and set to attack / Diego is attacking mid set to support – high creative freedom / Suarez is complete forward set to attack

I am completely stumped as to how to solve my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Tom

Hi mate, I rarely play this formation but I can give one or two observations that seemed to help a friend of mine on a network file recently.

First of all, you are playing quite an attacking formation, this may be the reason you concede a few goals. In many ways this formation causes a catch-22, because as you are using 2 inside forwards and fullbacks that im guessing dont go forward very often you wont have much width. However, if you do change your fullbacks to wing backs (automatic) to give yourself much needed width then you will be very exposed at the back.

One suggestion I would make is to drop your central midfielders to the defensive midfielder slots. You could play Melo as a defensive midfielder (defend) and marchisio as a deep lying playmaker (support). Obviously training Marchisio a bit would be necessary as he isnt natural there, but I know he can play there. One thing to note though is that there is a gap in your formation, so short passing may not work so well. Marchisio especially should be given the license to make quality passes that reach your AMC. For me, Diego would work best as a Trequartista, he is so creative! But back to the point, with these players now protecting your back line, you can now give your full backs the license to go forward and support the attackers and bring width to the team. I'd probably have them on wing back automatic, or wing back support, although I am aware that Torres especially isn't very creative. Azpilicueta is a great purchase for a RWB though!

I know this is a lot of changes, so I understand if you don't fancy going for it, but that would certainly be my plan. Get some balance in your team, get your width back, bridge the gap between defence and attack, and unleash diego's creativity! I hope this helps a bit, let me know :-)

Hey mattconn,

Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. I see what you mean about the gaps in my defence, I put in the changes and it has definitely tightened up my defending. Simmed a 9 games, scored 14 and only let in 2!

For me I play a 4-3-2-1

Play a lone striker with a winger on either side in the RAM & LAM to create chances and occationally score goals, a DCM betweens CB and CM.

Its solid for me.

I think at Juventus they need a complete re-building work that may take 2-3 seasons, try and sign the next big superstars and mix them with a few experienced players.

Sometimes the best player don't make the best team around you need players whoplay well with each other.

.

- Yeah I know what you mean about re-building, when I took over in my game (season 2011/12), they had signed some new players (Criscito for example) but they still had Amauri and Iaquinta up front. Amauri is still playing well for me (he is about 33 now, i think) but Iaquinta has really declined. In my first season in charge Amauri was sidelined for ages so I just played with Iaquinta up front, which lost me a lot of goals.

Juve are a good challenge though on FM10 I reckon, a big club with money to spend and expectations, but a squad that needs rebuilding.

I've started to play 4-3-1-2 which is getting me better performances, what did you do with Giovinco btw? He has played well for me, but using this new formation he doesn't fit in as well, so Im considering selling him to get money for new players.

Happy I could help a bit mate. The other thing is that some formations just work better in different leagues. And sometimes other teams adjust to the way you play after a while. Anyways, all the best!

I took over Juve in 2013, the only striker they had was a 33 year old Amauri. Half the players hated each other, team was a complete mess. Played just like in real life, rubbish. Most of the better players had left - Giovinco, Iaquinta, Criscito etc. They were 17th.

for me, i use 4-3-3 tactic,
exactly, the goal glutter :D
try to use it

but, try to use 4-5-1,
2 CM and 3 AMC, narrow or wide
it's depending on you :D
