Help with tactics

I am struggling a lot with tactics this year its not that I am a bad player because in recent years I've had quite a lot of success but this year I can't get that killer tactic created no matter what I do. I was wondering what tips someone can give me that helped them in their saves to do well I am against downloading tactics but I do like to get tips off them.

Any tactic tips?

I had the same problem have played since cm99/00 and had sucess, took a while to get used to having no sliders and things.

I have found player instructions are important for example telling wingers to stay wide and playmakers to try more direct passes.

Also a really good ball winning midfielder like Lars Bender to recycle possesion is vital.
