1. If you haven't played before I would suggest actually playing as at the very least a mid-table Prem team because with Championship teams or lower table Prem teams you will struggle against everybody, especially if you get promoted up.
2. The best tactic for someone with little to no experience is the basic 4-4-2. Some people might tell you to download tactics which will increase your chances of winning games at the start, but if your always playing downloaded tactics you'll never learn how to create them yourself and it takes the fun out of FM because that's what it's all about!
3. Managerial tips hmm...Use your friendlies wisely, when your more experienced and know what your doing you can skip friendlies and just let your Assistant Manager take control of them and you just see the result after the game, but to test your tactics and your new signings out you need to play friendlies like your playing a cup final if your new to the game. And dont forget you have unlimited subs so try and test peoples strenghts.
4. Take a look at this
http://www.fm-base.co.uk/players.php for potential signings and
http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/f60/ which is where everybody talks about players theyre going to buy or have bought, it gives you a better idea, and if you want to ask about a player, use the search function first to see if anybody has asked the same question as you before, but if not, ask away.
5. Good luck
