Should take Wheater as an example.

Went out on loan for a season when 19 and came back and then played most games the following season, keeping Woodgate/Huth/Riggott out the team.

I know the stories a bit different and there is a gulf in funds available for pool and boro, but same thing could happen.

It could, but I doubt it. Mclaren and Southgate have given a chance to youth players. Benitez, playing an English/British homegrown young player? Never.
