How can I improve my Regens?

I have been trying to improve their stats by training them by my top players and using some of the training schedules.

Nothing has been happening
 
Make sure you have 4star+ coaches in all areas, and that your training schedules dont suck, and that you play them in about 10 games a season, atleast.
 
Ok because I bought a young Malian defender for 50k with the potential to be the next Daniel Alves and I don't want to mess him up because that would be a bargain.

Will friendlies against lesser clubs do?

I normally just play them in the early rounds of cup competitions, and against easier league teams at home.
 
I have given him a few games and he isn't doing that badly. But his stats are not improving. I have him on the Keagy training schedule.
