Hi guys

My question sounds very simple at all :)

I have already studied the strategy at fm britain "how jose mourinho will manage at Real Madrid" written by Gareth Millward.

But this is more a forecast and he stimulated with FM2010. Many of his settings are on default and its more a test.

Is there already excist a thread for my question?

thx

Watch 3 Madrid Games online.
Vs Barca in Copa Del Rey Finaln
Vs Villarreal in league
Vs Racing Santander in league.

Will show you Mourinho's style against :Big team(Barca) Middle Team(VReal) Small Team(Racing)

Then put what you see into 3 tactics on FM, it really is easy....

For the Copa del Rey final vs Barca, he started with Ronaldo up top, Ozil on the right drifting in, Di Maria as a defensive winger on the left, two ball winners (Khedira, Pepe) in front of a deep playmaker (Xabi Alonso), and a flat back four (Marcelo,Carvalho,Ramos,Arbeloa). Sit deep, everyone extremely rigid except Ozil and Ronaldo, high pressing in the midfield, play off the quick counter, aim to clog the passing lanes and disrupt the playmakers rather than hold possession.

i.e with the ball, get it forward as quickly as possible and try to score, play long ball through Xabi Alonso.

without the ball, get in position as quickly as possible, tight marking, high pressing in midfield, hard tackling, sit deep and wait for them to come.

Against mid range teams,

Conventional striker (Higuain,Benzema,Adebayor) up front, Ronaldo in the AML position cutting inside, Di Maria in the AMR position cutting inside, Ozil in the AMC position drifting to either flank to help build up attacks and create space, Xabi Alonso and Khedira/Pepe/Diarra sitting deep in midfield (Alonso the playmaker, other the ballwinner), flat back four but the fullbacks (Marcelo and Ramos) have license to get forward with Carvalho and Pepe in the centre.
And of course San Iker in goal.

For lower teams, alter the formation (4222 or 4231) to fit in some bench players to get some game time, be aggressive and play attacking, while still remaining responsible at the back.

I agree with what undertheray says. Mourinho will normally implement a 4-2-3-1 except for big games.

I would set it up like this:

Gk - Sweeper Keeper Defend/Support
CBs - Central Defender Defend
FBs - Full Back Automatic (license to roam and get forward)
CML/R - Ball Winning Midfielder Defend
CMR/L - Deep Lying Playmaker Support
AMC - Advance Playmaker (get him going side to side, check out the article in Amateur's Chalkboard on Inside Winger)
AMR/L - Inside Forward Support (allows the Full Backs to over lap better than on Attack)
ST - Complete Forward (use a false 9 role, again, check out the article on the Modern Forward on the Amateur's Chalkboard)

That's how I think Mourinho has his Real Madrid side line up on an average day. I have fooled around with it a bit, its a pretty basic 4-2-3-1 that you could implement at any team pretty much. Will probably have to play around with the individual sliders and team setting a bit to get the best results.

A Key Thing about Mourinho's style is that he ALWAYS man-marks the key man/men.

Chelsea v Barcelona-He played Bosingwa down the left (Cole was injured) and he Stuck to Messi like glue. Messi was innefective all game.
He also had Mikel mark Iniesta and Essien mark Xavi. Barca couldn't string anything together.

Inter Milan v Barcelona- As above but with Milan players.

Real Madrid v Villarreal- Khedira was on Borja Valero for the entire match. Villarreal (Who play almost exclusively through Valero) were dumbstruck as they didnt have another option. Madrid walked through them 4-2.

Mourinho's system is little to do with formation in anything less than huge games. He'll just play who he's got in there best role. Its about OI and Tactical Marking. Mourinho's teams are always weakest in the first 20 mins. Jose needs 20 mins to find a weak spot in the opposition and then exploit it. Thats how to manage like Jose.

E.G If they have a shockingly slow LB then focus passing down Left and play a faster right-footed winger to cut inside, He'll leave him for dead.

One thing about his usual Madrid tactic. Özil roams where he finds space, and the midfielder who sometimes (not too often though) goes forward is Khedira, the destroyer, rather than Xabi Alonso. In FM that would be basicly Alonso deep lying playmaker defend and Khedira ball winning midfielder support/defensive midfielder support, depend are you using DMs or CMs.

@undertheray:

I have also have the same formation for my team from the real madrid tactic for the copa del rey final vs barca. the formation was like a:
4-1-4-1 - flat back four,DMC, 2 MCs, MR and ML and FC
mourinho use this for the big matches, not always but sometimes!

Question:
- How can I press in the midfield effective and clog the passing lanes? normally I should sit deep - is It enough only the close down the playmakers or the cms of the opponent - or should I make man marking with my ballwinning mcs or dmc?

Tempo, width and passing for counter strategy: quick and narrow or slow and wide? time wasting?

Tight marking and hard tackling for only defensive and support players?

thx a lot
