How do I install and use FM 2011 patch 11.3

Hi

I just need some general help. I just bought FM 2011 and downloaded patch 11.3

1) After I install the game what do I do with the patch? How do I install the patch?
2) When I start up the game how do I make sure the patch has updated the database?

I'm sorry if these questions seem a tad amateur. I have never used a patch before and haven't played a FM game in a a few years.
