Hi

Something I struggle with is to determine what formation and tactic to use. It fairly easy when you take over a team you are familiar with or a team you support (Hull City) because you have followed them for a long time and not what tactics and formations work in real life.

But when taking over a team you are unfamiliar with usually a lower league team, foreign team and Championship teams I find it difficult to work out what tactics and formations to use. Obviously friendlies in the pre season will help you but like I say I find it difficult to determine initially what players to pick, what role, what formation and what tactics to employ when I know nothing about them teams.

So have you got an advice and what do you do?

I usually see where my 3-4 best players prefer to play and in what role and build a tactic to play to their strengths.
If you have poor wingers for example, then just don't use a winger tactic and focus on the middle of the pitch.
Some tactics might work as plug and play, but unless you have the right players in the right roles, they won't be as effective as playing to your own strengths.
