How do you extend a loan?

I took over a lower league team that included 2 star players on loan. Great except that their loans expire mid-season. How do you extend their loan period to the end of the season before they expire? Any ideas?

Make a loan offer for them again till the end of the season or something. If they accepted the first time, they should accept this time too.

that's what I thought but when I try to do this the loan menu item is greyed out and cannot be selected.

any other ideas?

You will get a news item about a week before the loan ends and it usually gives you the choice to renew it
