How Fast Do Teams Adapt To Tactical Change?

Ok, I'm pretty new to Football Manager - My first version was 2010 enjoyed it but haven't won anything fairly (kept reseting to achieve desirable results) so I've decided to get 2011 and start fresh without cheating by exiting the window and playing the match over again (i'm sure some of you have done it)


Anyway, the question. Was wondering in the premier league we've seen Liverpool move from their regular tactics to 5-4-1 when playing Chelsea and to adapt and counter Chelsea's front three of Anelka, Drogba and Torres - so in a football manager situation if i come up against a tricky opponent will a tactic change help the team or would it hinder them as they need time to adapt?

If you put the tactic in the match preparation it would probably be fine

I believe in FM you need some games for your team to get familiarize with the tactic if you are making huge changes..

i recommend you train two tactics in match preparation.

i.e a home tactic and an away tactic or "control" if you are leading and want to hold on to your lead or if you are away against a tough team.
