I just bought I a midfielder with 20 free kick taking ability, as well as 16 composure and 17 long shots. He also has good tendencies for free kick takers such as attempting to score free kicks from distance

I´ve never had a good free kick taker and I was wondering how important this is? My problem is that this player is great with free kicks but mediocre at his other stats.

Is it worth replacing one of my central mids with this guy just for his free kick taking?

What player are you talking about and can you post a screenshot of his stats. I think you're talking about Joe McKee but I'm not sure.

I've only ever had the pleasure of having a regular free kick scorer once in Nene last year with PSG, the number of free kicks he scored hit double digits every season and he would win me games were I was a severe underdog in.

Yes it´s Joe Mckee! I just finished the 2017-2018 season; wasn´t sure if people wanted to see a screenshot that far into the future.

Have you found him to be worth it?

VERY VERY Important !

A freekick taker with 15 + in Free ckicks , Technique and long shots , combined with shoots free kicks with power is a deadly weapon !

Bressan and Tshabalala are pretty good with Free kicks .... they score about 15 freekicks a season between them , for my Galatasaray !

Is it even worth it in the BPL?? If i start this guy, he would replace a solid central mid with good stats all around. Will it hurt my team to have this guy more than it will help?
Keep in mind that my central mids don´t have big roles. All they do is short passes up to my strikers and winger and through balls once in a while

He'll score you lots of goals so if you set up the rest of the team to be able to carry him a bit and if you don't use the shout work ball into the box you can set his long shots to often and that kind of player will score bucket loads and since he won't be seen as a threat he'll have more space making him more deadly.

Depends on what team do you have !

I tend to play him as a " deep Lying forward " , he lacks the mental attributes to play in midfield and he can o some serious damage up front !

But if you have better options , i think it would be better assigning a player with 14 or 15 freekicks ( he'll still score a few FKs ) . It's not worth it to start a player just because he " might " score a FK .

Thanks for the replies, they have been very helpful. I´ll think of what to do and let you know. Maybe start a new thread later posting my team and getting opinoons there. Thanks!

IMO, i want my teams to play nice and flowing attacking football, and scoring goals from that, so i tend to not care too much about freekick abilities... Of course it's nice to have someone being able to chip in with a few that way, but i don't like to rely on them...

However, if you're playing one of the smaller teams in the league, it can be a tremendous advantage to get some extra goals from set pieces :)

The thing is my team does not really rely on the central mids. They are more of a support role. I have 2 strikers, an attacking central mid and a right inside forward

My right IF has great flair, creativity, speed, crossing, passing so I made him my playmaker AND my target man. He cuts inside and either scores or passes to my forward or my attacking mid. My poacher forward scored 69 goals in all competitions and had 20+ assists last year and my TM and attacking midd had around 15 goals each

My mids are only there for a counter through ball or for short passes up to my 4 attacking players so I think that I can sacrifice a solid midfielder for one that can give me a good amount of fluke goals during the season?

Well if you're playing like that a set piece specialist is way better than a solid mid.

I have Morten Gamst Pederson and Simon Vukcevic, both of whom have very high free kick, long shots and technique stats. And Pederson has the 'tries to score free kicks from distance' PPM (not sure if Vukcevic does or not) as well as being a prolific FK taker IRL, yet last season I scored a total of 1 goal from a direct FK.

is this just bad luck or am I doing something wrong?

Which player should I use to take freekicks in my Barcelona default team and how should I set up free kicks?

So i've used McKee for half a season now and he is doing surprisingly well, with a 7.10 rating! This is pretty impressive, but his free kicks haven't been great.. He's only scored twice from free kicks (although both were in the same game against man city, which he basically single handidly won for me!)

For corners I use my best heading defender near post and he's scored 10 times in half a season so I think that's a pretty solid strategy

Teach Mc Kee to " take free kicks with power " and " tries long range FKs " !

Otherwise he'll look more to cross the ball rather than take his chance !

The game must have some kind of FK bug or something , because some of my players scored some physically impossible FK , with some weird curves ! Haha

Definitely play him in your first squad. If he has correct Player Prefered Moves and good hidden attributes, player like that can easily go into double digit goals through FK and longshots over the course of season and win you countless games.

With modifiers like those i would play him over anyone else, really. Even if you have to rework your entire tactic around him. It will be worth it.

Joe McKee has been sensational for me for 4 seasons in League 1 and the Championship. Averaging about 15 goals and 10-15 assists a season.

I play him as my playmaker in attacking midfielder behind 1 striker and he seems to score a lot of goals from range and have the ability to dribble round players or pick out my striker with a pass.

Also doesn't hurt that he has a 20 stat for penaltys
