how to control youth contracts?

ive only been playing the latest game a few days, and im playing as bognor so need to keep pretty strict with my finances. Thing is when any U18 player reaches 17 it comes up saying they have been given a contract. There is surely an option where i get notified that they have come of age first and decide myself whether to offer a contract or release?

its annoying me at the mo cos ive had a few players reach 17 and get a 2 or 3 year deal so its gonna cost me to release them

any help appreciated

there untick "assistant manager control contracts" in u18, o r something like that
