Just bought Football Manager 2014 for the PC and have just started a season with Cardiff. I managed to sign the ex Liverpool defender, sotirios kyrgiakos, with an adjustment to wages but it seems that you can't sign anybody when it comes to agreeing wages. Does anybody know a way /cheat for this or used Cardiff on FM before? Cheers

Maybe you need to lower your standards. Cardiff aren't exactly rich, so you are unlikely to be able to sign players that want high wages. You could try asking the board if they will allow you to increase the maximum wages you can offer a player, I have never played as Cardiff myself though, so I don't know if they are willing to do that. The only other things you can do are pay the agent a higher fee, or offer the player higher/more bonuses, that will usually allow you to lower wages a little.

I would probably just target younger players with good potential since their wage demands are usually much more reasonable and you can sell them for a profit later on if they don't work out for your team.

yeah as a Cardiff fan, I didn't expect to be able to sign players on massive wages but finding it difficult to sign anybody, even low cost players. Thanks for the reply.

If you check the scout report on a player, you'll find an estimate on what the their wage demands will be. That should give you a good idea on which players you will be able to sign. By 'low cost' players, do you mean those that have a low transfer value? Older players (30+) tend to have a lower value as they are at end their prime or starting to decline but they still demand high wages (I think this is due to their reputation but i'm not 100% sure on that). This is why I suggested you look for younger players.

I will give the scout report a try thanks.Going to do a man city season too,to make up for lack of transfer incomings ha.

If its a young player with potential and i don't want to sell him i usually put a sell on fee percentage on, e.g. i put 50% on for a player with 5 star potential and used him for about 7 years, took his wage down when i signed him from 38k to 18k

If you ve got Norway and Denmark loaded theres loads of very good players who are cheap and have low wages - eg Thomas Drage/Rasmus Thelander/Sviatchenko/Kasper Kusk ...

Have you got it so you can't but players in the first window? You normally have to tick a box to enable transfers to be used.

I have tried signing Herolind Shala who is valued at 1.6k, from the norweigan league. I had a bid accepted only to see that I cannot agree terms due to board restrictions. There is no transfer budget but I thought this would be taken from wages. I think it must be that you have to sell and then can buy people if going Cardiff.

No I haven't touched the wage budget, but it says due to board restrictions you cannot sign player.

Sounds like when you have been setting the game you have ticked a box that doesn't allow transfers during the first window. When starting there's a box called "disable first window transfer budgets" make sure its un-ticked as this will stop you from making any transfers until January.

Only real way to get over it is to either start the save again or play it through until January.

I have re started the game a couple of times as somebody mentioned this but I haven't ticked any boxes saying to disable. I don't know if anybody else wants to see if they can sign somebody with Cardiff lol as I am a 2012 football manager player normally and although I started well with 2 wins, I am now relying on Kenwyne Jones to score...not happening ha.
