How to win World Player???

I have built a strong West Brom team, in the last 4 seasons in the Prem, Thiago Almada has average 7.5+, 20 ish goals and 20 ish assists... his reputation is still only at half a star and he is never in the discussion for any of the world awards... similarly I have Haaland up front, 100 league goals over 3 seasons and not even in the conversation... team rep is worldwide, league rep is high, so why do individual player reputations show no movement despite performing better than anyone else in world football??

Mbappe just won it at city... avg rating 7.45 in 50 appearances, 27 goals 12 assists... haaland for me has closer to 7.9 avg and 50 goals with similar assists... doesn't make any sense.
