I am managing torino in the Serie B and am focusing alot on youth developement. i am a little bit lost on how to guage player age. my original plan was to gut out my youth squad by releasing or placing all the worthless players i have in reserves. My goal was to get new players under youth contract so when they turn 18 i offer them a pro contract and loan them out. once they are 22, i either place them in my squad or sell them off for profit. this is my first year playing FM so i am new to the game. i am having a hard time finding 15 and 16 year olds to add to my squad. are these very young players considered rare and should i be looking to fill my squad with 17 and 18 year olds? Also, i thought i read this somewhere, but dont remember. every season, are there new young players added to my youth squad every year automatically, or am i required to scout and find these players?

both, approx 7-15 players will be added automatically to your youth squad yearly in june. you can sign youth from other teams and place them in your youth squad as well.

i let 17 under be in the u18 squad, and 18+ at reserves. if a 16-17yr old is a beast, and got like 3.5 - 4 star PA , then i regulate some in the u18s and others in reserves.

15 and 16, are not that common to find. Majority of your youth players will be terrible and just get realeased into free transfer after a year or two. At the end of the season look at your new intake of players and see which (according to scouts, coaches and Assistant Manager) have high potential and keep them and bring them up as you would with any good prospect. Also just buy youth players from other teams and "young" for me is under 18.

young is still up to the age of 24 in my opinion, I used to want to have only 18yr olds etc, but you need balance and experience in your sqaud! (look at Arsenal)

most youngsters when starting the game, especially at Torino will not be good, some may have potential (especially Stevanovic) but wont be good enough to start in the 1st team!

I suggest reading through this for a few idea's:
