Huddersfield Town

Moments after Lee Clark stepped down from the post at the Galpharm Stadium, the Huddersfield town chairman quickly snapped up retired international footballer Sam Rogers who has had no managerial experience. In his interview he stated that he was excited with the prospect of bringing Huddersfield up the football league ladder.

Many fans have questioned the boards decision to hire someone with no experience of managing any sort of team, with some even feeling the prospect of relegation in the hands of such an inexperienced man.

Sam Rogers has recently stated that his intentions were to prove the fans wrong and to try and take Huddersfield up into the championship within 3 seasons. Will Sam Rogers be able to defeat the likes of Norwich, Leeds and Charlton to get his side into the championship? or will his stay end in disaster? Only time will tell.

Manager Sam rogers also signed 3 youth players, Joe Lolley, Izet Zahirovic and Josh Knight all on free transfers. On the flipside the manager did not make any sales during the transfer window and rejected a £1,100,000 bid from Peterborough for Andy Pilkington, due to his importance in the upcomming season. Many young reserves where given the chance to impress on loan at conference clubs. In total 7 players went to other clubs on loan.

When asked why he didnt use the full £400,000 to sign players he replied " I do not want to spend much money when you can make fantastic free signings, many players who cost alot at this level have a chance of turning out to be a flop, however for free transfers the loss will never be as great" It is reported that the remaining funds from transfers has been added to the overall wage budget.

Mahon & Mifsud are good signings for you; Get Shabani Nonda :)

A mixed start for Sam Rogers

With 10 league games under his belt, Sam Rogers has had some ups and some downs, but the young manager can be contempt with his tenure so far. The season started horribly, losing 3 games in a row and then drawing the next. However results improved for him as they won there next 3 games before losing 3 - 0 to a strong Millwall team.

In the cups Huddersfield has been a forced to be reckoned with. Beating Rochdale 2 - 1 in the first round of the league cup before dumping out championship leaders Swansea 1 - 0 at their home stadium. They were given a 3rd round home tie to Bolton Wanderers and the Terriers put up a brave performance before going down to a 1 - 0 loss however they can be proud that they didnt make a fool of themselves. Huddersfield are also still in the JPT and have beaten both Rotherham and Darlington to get this far.

Rogers' men find themselves 11th currently in the table with a game in hand over most teams in the division, with a mixed bag of results its hard to determine whether or not they will push into the playoff places or fall into the dreaded relegation dog fight.

League Results

League Cup Results

A review of my first 6 months in charge

I am happy with what my club has acheived so far, its going well in the league and at the turn of the year we find ourselves 11th and well within a chance of reaching into those playoff places. The season at times has been frustrating with losses to teams we should be beating at home however strong performances away from home to teams such as Norwich and a slender defeat to Leeds give me hope that we can still acheive a playoff place.

Danny Drinkwater is a beast on FM dont be fooled by his poor stats :)

April approaching

The last couple of month has seen a turn around at Huddersfield for me, during january I made two loan signings in an attempt to climb my way from 11th into the play off spots. However the players Kupisz and Parrett failed to make the desired impact and therefore i find myself still around the same place that i was on the 31th of december however my team has been more successful when it came to cup runs.

Managed to draw 0 - 0 at stamford bridge so all in all very good campaign in the FA/League/JPT cups, if i could just acheive a playoff spot then I would be extremely happy with my first season.

A mixed bag of results in the league, my last bunch of games involve the more simpler opponents of the league apart from Millwall. Hopefully my team can band together and we can produce some sort of form to take us into an unrealistic prospect of play offs.

Huddersfield suffer last day heartbreak

Huddersfield town fans are left in tears today after being only 11 minutes away from the final playoff place. The table before the final stood with MK Dons holding out the 6th place posistion on 76 points, followed by Huddersfield on 75 and Colchester also on 75. The outsiders were Southampton who stood on 73 points. Only time would tell which of these earned the place in the playoffs.

Walsall 3 - 1 MK Dons

Walsall took a 2 goal lead into half time and Huddersfield fans were jubilant, a brace in the 90th from Walsall's Sam Parkin cemented the fact that the Dons would be playing league one football next season.

Colchester 2 - 2 Leyton Orient

Colchester like Walsall also took a 2 - 0 goal lead into the break and with the Orient down to 10 it seemed that Colchester may have the chance of making it into the playoffs, however Leyton players rallied and 2 goals in the second half also broke the dreams of Colchester.

Southampton 2 - 0 Southend

2 goals in either half secured Southampton a deserved win and many had hoped that Huddersfield would slip up away to Exeter for them to acheive the fabled 6th place. Many beleive that Southampton deserved the last place as they had been unbeaten since the 26th of december.

Exeter 2 - 2 Huddersfield Town

Lee Novak put the terriers infront after only 22 minutes from a well worked goal, however the lacklustre defence conceded a goal in the 35th minute which placed the players under terrible amounts of stress, they came out in the 2nd half all guns blazing and out of form striker Theo Robinson restored the lead for the Town and some were celebrating. Unfortunatley the linesman wanted to crash this party, and an offside Stuart Fleetwood managed to score an equaliser 11 minutes from time, the terriers poured everything they had left onto the goal and in the end they couldnt convert. The players, manager and fans were heartbroken as they had been robbed of the last place by a silly decision. Afterwards Sam Rogers was quoted as saying " Although we didnt get the result we needed today, I am still proud at the fact that we were up there untill the final day of the season, and that we also won the JPT, hopefully next season we can push into those places and get promoted"

1st season overview

Well I managed to acheive my aim of a top half finish, won the JPT and got far in both domestic cups, so I beleive this was a successful season, for next season im hoping to get atleast a playoff place so my next update will be at the end of season 2 pre season.

What a faninating story. Unlucky as i can see that the Saints also got promoted. Championship football will be want for the following seaon by the terriors. Good Luck.

Huddersfields second season

After the last day heartbreak of last season I figured I needed a massive overhaul of my team, to remove people whose wages were higher than their talent, and overall 19 players were brought into the club whilst 23 went in the opposite direction, and I still spent no money whatsoever on players. Its going well in the league with a title challenge being in the mix, however its happened before so I am weary of a dip in form that could leave me outside the playoffs.

Huddersfield also managed to get into the second round of the league cup but unfortunatley got knocked out by a much superior West Ham team 3 - 0 at upton park. The defence of the JPT has gone well with the terriers still in with a chance of making history, the first team to successfully defend the JPT. A tough away draw to Preston NE awaits them.
