I simply cannot win, bit like Steve Keane. Please Help FM enthusiasts.

I have had 1 and a half seasons. Got Swansea relegated, which is a shame, only won 10 games in league. Went to Blackburn and in 4 months only won 2 games. left them for Aston villa. Lost 2-0 to blackburn, coincidentally, and have just lost 5-0 to stoke who are only 4 places above me in league with a couple of more points. What are some tactics to win in FM basically?
