I've been buying a couple of new players for Inter in the new transfer season, and now with only 25 players (11+11 subs + 3 reserves with injuries), a couple of players came to complain about how monstrous the size of the squad was. Is it really this big? What is the ideal size? I still have to buy a couple of full backs, last season I lost an important game because I had no reserve full backs.

I always aim for a 25 man squad, I like to have 2 of every position in that 25 man squad and a couple of extra players where I feel we are a bit weak.

23-25 players.

Have atleast one utility player for each line.

Someone who can play everywhere in defense, someone who can play everywhere in midfield, someone who can play on both wings. Just for cover, it has bit me in the *** before.

I like to have two players for each position. So if I'm using a tactic that has two CM then I aim to have four in the team. I have no 'back ups', instead a rotate my team a lot (so everyone on the team needs to be capable of starting), and if someone gets injured I just bring up a player from the youth/reserve team.

I'm operating on a 20 man squad with Liverpool in about 2034/5 ish, but I have some quality youngsters to call on if necessary, so I've never been too worried

23 plus 11 youths - two seniors and one talent for each position, with an extra keeper.

However, I find that when I get a squad like that I often loose interest in the game - so even though I find the above to be the most efficient setup I usually try to rotate players a bit more between positions, and to make tactical changes that means I have to rotate a bit more.

With Inter you want to be competing for the League, Europe and cup. So you need a large squad:

GKs 2
CBs 4 + 1 (rotate pairs plus one if somebody is injured)
FBs/WBs 4 + 1 (as per above. Plus note that most tactics/formations tire these players the most in match)
DMs/BWMs/CMs Utility players 4+1
FWs - depends if you play with two up front (you need 4) or one (you need 2/3)
AMs/Wingers/Creative players 4/5

Currently have 28 in my Atalanta squad. Aim for 2 in each position minimum. And a few utility players. Also have 1-2 players who will never see a game in a season but are there for back up. Problem is I find myself with 2 first team squads who all want to play.

This is what i'd like to do but i always get tempted to some quality player that becomes available and end up with one or two to many wingers, amc's etc. But yeah what you said.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. When Oscar was transfer listed by request because Chelsea didn't qualify for the Champions League, I still couldn't resist buying him even though I already had enough attacking midfielders. It's more of a guideline I set for myself rather than something that is set in stone
