If the game will not start, please try the following.
To make sure there’s not been a faulty installation, please verify you game cache.
How To Verify Your Game Cache
- Load Steam
- Click to enter the ‘Library’ section, from here right-click on the game and select ‘Properties’ from the menu.
- Select the Local files tab and click the ‘VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE…’ button.
- Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
- Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.
- We recommend verifying your cache twice to make sure all files are fully downloaded – no matter how many times you do this, it will always re-download files as it is overwriting the cache. This is perfectly normal.
Once you have verified your cache, try the game again.
If this still does not work, then it could be either an issue related to your graphics card drivers or your anti-virus.
For the graphics card drivers, first of all make sure you are running the latest drivers for your system.
If you're already aware of your graphics card type, the majority of graphics card websites have 'auto-checkers' which can scan your system and find the correct card. They can be found here for the following makes:
AMD/ATI - Download Drivers
Intel - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/
Nvidia - Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Nvidia GeForce - Drivers | GeForce
If you have the knowledge, I'd suggest using the manual download and install over the auto-checker, so if you know your exact graphics card make and the OS you are running, please enter in your details and find the latest drivers.
Once you’ve updated to the latest drivers try the game again.
If you are running the game on a laptop, make sure your laptop is running via the mains so it isn't on power saving mode.
Go into your Control Panel and select 'Power Options' - make sure it is running on 'Maximum' or 'High' performance.
If your laptop has an Nvidia card, it will most likely also have a secondary Intel card. Right-click on your desktop and there should be a Nvidia Control Panel. Under "3D settings" and "program settings" add "fm.exe" found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2014 or where you have your program file.
Try the more powerful 'main' Nvidia card to try and run - if it still doesn’t launch, go back and choose "Integrated graphics" as main graphic processor.
If none of the above works, it may be your anti-virus program which is conflicting with the launching the game through Steam. Steam have produced a guide highlighting some programs which may cause problems - https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...9828-SFLZ-9289
If you think it’s your anti-virus causing the problem and don’t know how to configure it to work, it may be worth you uninstalling the anti-virus program. If you choose to do so, we recommend turning on Windows Firewall/Windows Defender. On OS’s earlier than Windows 8 or 8.1 we’d recommend installing Microsoft Security Essentials which is solid, free and doesn't conflict with Steam or FM. If you run Windows 8 or 8.1 you will already have Windows Defender installed, we would not suggest installing another anti-virus as well as this could also cause conflicting issues.
Once you have setup your anti-virus as above, we’d suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Football Manager. Then try the game again.
