"I'm Feeling Glad All Over"
A Port Vale Football Club Story
A Port Vale Football Club Story
New Port Vale manager, Ryan Stubbs has spoke for the first time since being appointed manager yesterday afternoon. Ryan Stubbs, 35 who's only previous experience in football management was with a season of managering the Southend United reserves in 2008/09, was the shock appointment after Micky Adams was dismissed just under a week ago. Speaking to ValiantsWorld.com, Ryan told us he was looking foward to his new job and that he can not wait to start his new challenge.
Interview with Ryan Stubbs
ValiantWorld.com; "This is your first managerial job, with no past experience and never playing at the top level, what do you hope to bring to Port Vale"?
Ryan Stubbs; "Well of course, not having played at this level before and this being my first managerial job, im a bit nervous as to what to expect. At the same time however, the nerves are met with a sense of excitement and happiness as to being giving the chance too give a shot of management. As a footballer, i was never any good. Always the kid to be picked last during P.E, always the kid who'd rather just play on my computar games rather than kick around with mates. I did however find the role of coaching a lot more enjoyable and decided that id rather coach than play. I have the coaching badges too prove that i can coach at this level even no i could never in a million years play at this level. Im just hoping to do my best for Port Vale Football Club and will be trying my upmost to get them climbing up the leagues".
Dan Oakes (the Sentinal); The sacking off Micky Adams came to a shock to everyone involved with Port Vale. What will you be doing differently to ensure you dont follow Micky?
Ryan Stubbs; Well for a start, im not one to comment on anybody else but myself and the club. As far as im concerned, Micky did a very good job here at Port Vale and is a terrific manager. I suppose the only thing i can do differently is to win every game and score 7 or 8 goals each game. In all seriousness though, Micky Adams did a good job here but some things arent to be in life i believe and his time to move on had come.
Danny Butcher (the Football League paper); With Port Vale being tipped by many people to gain promotion from League Two this season to League One through the automatic spots or via the Play Offs, from your first assisment of your squad, would you agree with them?
Ryan Stubbs; Well promotion of course has to be on everyones mind at the beginning of the season. Whether we are tipped to be promoted or not, im not one to take much notice of what other people say and i will make sure my group of lads take the same views as i do. We need to focus on ourselfs and no one else. We need to win the games we play in. Sure, come end of the season we may need to rely on others doing us a few favours but other than that, only we can win the games we are involved in. I wont be letting the players get carried away with the reports that we are up their with the fravorites to be promoted either.
Dan Oakes (the Sentinal); With a very small budget, if not no money to work with, the load and free agent system looks like the only way your going to be able to booster your squad. Is there anyone that you are looking in to bringing in to the club or even letting leave to make some money in order to buying?
Ryan Stubbs; There is a few players i have in mind, whether we are able to get theres players in though is a different story. I hope to be bringing in a few players through the loan system and if there is anyone on a free who i think could do a job for us, i will also look into the possibilities to bringing them in to the club. As for letting anyone go, that wont happen. Unless we get offered a crazy sum of money for a player, no one will be leaving us for good. A few of the younger players may be let out on loan but that is about it.
ValiantWorld.com; Reports coming out of your former club Southend United is that you are looking in to brining Stuart O'Keefe and Johnny Herd in on season long loans. Can you confirm this?
Ryan Stubbs; Staurt and Johnny are both very talented young players who i know very well from my days of working with the reserve team at Southend United. I think it would be wrong of me to make any comment on them as they are contracted to a different club. Would i be interested in signing these players if i had the chance too? Of course i would but i can bet, every team in League Two would jump at the chance as well.
