Improving your Full backs/Wing backs

This is my young brazillian left back. Best. Player.Ever. Sort of, hes really consistent and hardly ever gets booked. However as you can see he doesnt get many assists/goals. Goals arent a problem really as this isnt a big part of his game, but how can i increase the amount of assists they get?

Is it basically just setting him to cross ball often?

cross ball often helps.

Also his mentality and how often he makes forward runs.

Basically you want forward runs often and run with ball often and cross ball often. This gets him up the pitch. A high attacking mentality will put him in attacking positions.

I also personally tick roaming and set them to cut inside. This gives them space to work with and when they have the ball they sometimes will dribble to the center of the pitch which can open opportunities.
