West Ham's former England striker Dean Ashton has retired at the age of 26 after failing to recover from a long-term ankle injury.

One of my favrioute players in the EPL, to bad he has to ritre due to injury
 
It's horrible news. He was a great player and I would have taken him to SA. There were many games where he was very impressive and he scored that fantastic goal against Man United.
 
Just 26. What a shame. But at least he has sense in not aggravating his injury.
 
He is physically fit but because the injury is chronic he can't twist or turn cause it could damage his ankle. Any heavy contact is very dangerous for it. It is the only option he doesn't have a choice if he wants to walk again.
