Interesting season

Hi everyone

I am managing Portsmouth and have just finished the season, secured 4th spot in the Prem League , joint 73 with Chelsea and Arsenal and Man City won it on 75 points - close one !

My question is, I was leading the league in pole position up until around Feb/March time.. then weird results started to happen, like losing to Liverpool 9-1 !!!! My defence completely crumbled in many games and lost points to opposition I should of easily won... My team had a real bad spell. Does anyone know what could cause this? My defenders were doing great up until a point and then we lost the league cup final, and started dropping points and at one point I thought I was going to be in for a fight for 4th place after being pole for the whole season.

Happens to pretty much everyone. I was Nottingham Forest got them promoted first season. Well under prepared for Premiership so got Relegated and now back in Championship with a Squad that could easily win every game no problem however I'm not my team won't score and is being dominated for possesion I can't explain it. I haven't changed my formation.

yeh same with me .. 1st season with napoli fighting for a 3rd .. sudenly i the last 15 games or so .. they start losing with **** teams .. and i finish 7th .. 2nd season .. is already running as i am in 5th but vagner as no goals yet (11 games .. no comment)

Could have taken a big morale hit with the first loss, and a domino effect may have ensued.

FMBilly is correct, your players were probably very gutted to lose that final, morale may of dropped, and then a loss to liverpool of 9-1 certaintly wouldn't of helped, I guess you were unlucky the way it happened, also, things like a cup loss can take different effects on morale by the type of your squad, e.g, professional squad would keep their chins up and get on with the job, same for determined. Then there's the other sort of squad, like an ambitious one, they would of really wanted to win it as they are so ambitious, and losing it would of probably really upset em, so overall it can depend on different stuff but I expect it was to do with morale, anyway, 4th with Portsmouth is good

Yeah that is interesting points actually regarding morale.. I think the final was the turning point for us then the liverpool game was just a joke!

But yeah, we have champions league qualifier coming up, and only 2 points from the title in a season I was hoping for a top 7 finish, so I can't complain

There is also the chance that the ai figured out how to break your tactic....I lost count the amount of times I have had to tweak a tactic to counter the ai.

Ohh right - this is possible? Interesting thought... I'll take this into account. I was under the impression once you have a good tactic you can pretty much just leave it , I didn't know the AI was sophisticated/smart enough to work against it and break it down... pretty cool though

they do to mine lol, I remember taking juve to 2014 winning the treble lots of times, only to have to tweak the tactic in the semis because all of a sudden at half time im being whooped 4-0, luckily I came back and won 5-4.
