Trying to connect to steam to do the standard procedure for crash dumps (verify game cache and the like), but my internet connection (local area and wireless) are both disconnected and despite the fact that I'm right next to my modem, it says that no network is in range. Have tried everything from restarting to doing command prompts. Any techies on here who can help ?. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried re-setting/starting your internet connection? and restarting your laptop. Also, go through the Network & Sharing Centre and do some trouble-shooting on there.

If that fails, contact your internet provider and find out whats up.
