Just played the first 2 friendlies and lost both, back in November in my Manchester United save, there were no such problems.

I understand that they're friendlies but still, this is rather ridiculous.
Here are my tactics. There might be a whole lot wrong with it but still, a team with Rooney, Mata and Memphis should be able to beat these sort of teams.

What has happened to the game.

This is why PKMs are asked for. Difficult to go on, based on limited info.

Something else you may need to keep in mind, don't forget PPMs. They do matter so who you select and where, is important. Just looking at a tactic in isolation is one thing, but the players and their PPMs matter.

Since you were watching the games, what were the issues in them? The Rochdale one looks unlucky though.

From what I saw in the two games, crossing from fullbacks were poor. Always being blocked not getting past the first man.
Players always lose possession by 1. getting tackled or 2. poor passes.
And as you can see from the stats, not many shots on target.
The stats says alot, even the percentage of tackles won were poor.
In the Rochdale game, players weren't in space always bumping into each other. So I added Roam from positions but it couldn't change the outcome of the game.

The stats are limited. Just on the match stats, you don't show blocked shots or half chances, both quite important. They're also just numbers. It doesn't show anything else. It doesn't show where shots are taken from or who's taking them. It doesn't show why players are getting tackled or misplacing passes. You cannot see if a player has passing options or not. Etc Etc.

You've already identified a key issue. Players aren't in space. So why then would you ask the players to pass short and to feet if they're marked? They don't have the freedom to pass so that a player can run onto the ball rather.

You're slowing the game down more than normal, so that may be why crosses aren't coming in quickly.

James Milner has more charisma than your tactic... :S.

How do you want your tactic to score goals and create chances?
Describe the 'average' goal scored by your tactic?

I also attached my current 'experimental' 4231 possession based tactic, since that's what you seem to be aiming for. So far it's won 5/5.

I could see if players had passing options or not. The passes were just short of the player or were intercepted.
Couldn't understand your second point, I didn't ask them to pass short or to feet. Didn't specify, passing was on normal.
And the tempo was on normal. Fullbacks get the ball, wait and then try to cross but without success.

I want chances to come through the front four. The two goals scored were from the right wing. Ashley Young cutting inside to pass to Martial for a tap in. Both the same way.

As for your tactic, it seems too restrictive for my liking, looking at your TIs. And player roles aren't exactly suited for the players of Manchester United.

Retain Possession will shorten passing, lower tempo and instruct players to reduce passes into space.

Taking that TI off would go against what I want though. And it used to work fine last time.

You didn't even know that it is what you instructed ?!?! How on earth can it go against what you want then?

Because I want my team to retain posession. I've had experiences where playing on control without adding that TI would mean that my teams wouldn't have enough possession.

I don't understand how my tactics from a month or 2 ago would just stop working.

It's not a magic button to give you 60%+ possession. There are effects when you instruct it. Effects you didn't know of and it seems you didn't necessarily want.

Do you want shorter passing, lower tempo and reduced passes into space? Then select it. If not, don't select it.
