Is there a downside to Steam?

Hi.

I am wondering if there are problems concerning Steam? I've heard some people complain about it, but i can't remember why. My biggest question is; do you have to be online to play the game if you have Steam or does it work fine even if you don't have an internet connection?

I was asking about this in some other thread, but for suddenly it was closed by some tool (no offence to whoever it was).

well, you do need online, but I think it's great, and very simple to use

Well that's clearly not true. I was using it to play the FM 2011 Press Release.

if you click on remember your password when you log on, you can play without internet, but you reap the rewards when playing with internet

What kind of rewards are we talking about here? I usually have a good connection, but unfortunately it's prone to failure.

Yeah offline mode works fine. I don't know what tubby is on about.

@ tonythehornet - automated patching, achievements, integrated social features ect.

There are no rewards, lol. You can unlock challenges and get trophies for doing well in the games you play via steam and can compare them with your friends.

ive had steam for years due to other games never had any problem with it, offline mode works fine aswell should try re-installing it see if that helps you

Offline mode works like a charm, Use steam on my laptop and play offline mode all the time

Well it depends. e.g it is great for netbook users as there are no dvd drives so we can play games via that. I don't use it I just play FM on my desktop. If you planning to ever use steam again get it but if not get the physical or direct to download release.
