Vancouver Whitecaps have today announced the appointment of Jay Sadler as their new manager.

Jay Sadler, 25, has signed a 1-year contract to succeed Carl Robinson and arrives as an unknown quantity having never previously managed professionally. Sadler who played over 100 appearances in the English Football League for Crewe Alex, suffered a serious knee injury at the age of 24 which resulted in an early retirement. However, after a long spell on the side, he is delighted in his new role as head coach.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me, one I look to embrace and enjoy. We have great facilities at our disposal, and with a few fresh faces, there is nothing stopping us from mounting a realistic assault on the Western Conference."

After ending the reign of Robinson, a few days ago, club president Bob L
enarduzzi felt the club needed an 'urgent change' at the top. "The club wasn't progressing in the way we had originally planned, this needed to change. We felt it was in the clubs best interests to dispose of Carl and bring in someone fresh and hungry for success."

He continued by waving away Sadler's lack of experience. "Yes he is young, and yes we are taking a slight gamble, however after ongoing talks I believe Jay Sadler has the potential and like-ability factor to reach new levels with this squad".

The Whitecaps finished 11th in their second consecutive MLS campaign having won promotion back in 2010. The club, who were granted the 17th MLS franchise in March 2009, are yet to hit the big heights but could this all change under new manager Jay Sadler!? We will soon find out as they kick off their campaign at home to Canadian rivals Toronto FC on March 2nd, live on Fox Sports.
