Twenty years ago, it would have been obvious what Steven Gerrard was. He has boundless energy, a ferocious shot and an extraordinary capacity for bending games to his will.

I will commit seppuku if madsheep doesn't post.

2-3 years ago i would say behind the main striker but now as age will take its toll on Gerrards way of playing i think he is better in the middle.

that's exactly why he his best position is behind the striker, because he hasn't got the leg's to play that box to box role, and isn't tactically disciplined enough...

I think he plays behind the striker the best IMO

Just gonna say that.

but when he plays behind the striker he has a burst of pace and energy and that does decline with age. Thats why when Meireles was signed i said Gerrard should play the more defensive role.

His best role is behind the striker.. Imo! Especially when you have Torres as the striker.

I can see this being quite a good game, the pitch is wet so they could be a few mistakes - which we all love, the Swiss know they can beat us after our World Cup, they think they had a good World Cup, with results such as beating Spain, there at home, so the crowd will get behind them, so I think both teams will go for it.

but that is were Cole wants to play which is one of the reasons he joined Liverpool because he wanted to play behind the striker and must have felt he had a chance there.

He says, in a post. :P
lol i was literally leaveing. but to be honest, the short version is that hes best behind the the striker. can be arsed with the long version, written it enough times lol. not sure it will be a good game, though im glad the wet pitch will offer some zip, because i feel its going to be very tactical, unless we grab the early goal, if they grab an early goal its gonna be tough

I don't give a flying **** where Cole wants to play! That is Gerrard's best position and he is our best player, and has been for sometime now, he has the ability to change a game in seconds. If that's his best position and most people think it is he should play there!

Cole can move onto the wing.

if only roy would say that to cole. because right now you cannot afford to be giving luxuries to a player. liverpool are in a serious dogfight for 4th place. and you need gerrard at AMC where he can focus on destroying the opposition, let lucas and meireles sweep up after him

Exactly! If that did happen then we'd have a good chance of getting 4th. Cole can play on the wing, and he'll do a good job there!

Yeah he played his best football when he was behind Torres. Cole doesn't even play well there.
He's not a defensive player.

Agreed.
I probably prefer Gerrard behind Torres, but Cole said he signed to get more central play, so I can see Gerrard playing in Midfield. But one things not debateable, wherever he plays he tries his hardest, and gets the whole team up for it.
